Head - Data Engineering (10-20 yrs)

Position Overview :

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to head our Data Engineering Practice. This high-impact role blends strategic leadership with operational excellence, focusing on driving revenue growth, managing costs, ensuring delivery success, and overseeing day-to-day operations.

As the Data Engineering Center of Excellence (COE) Leader, you will guide the execution and delivery of complex data engineering and technology projects, ensuring exceptional outcomes and building strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-value projects, deep expertise in analytics, and exceptional leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities :

Business Growth :

- Lead the delivery and operations of a $3M business, with a goal to scale it to over $10M in the next 3-4 years.

- Achieve this through effective strategies, RFP responses, and innovative technical solutions.

Margin & Continuous Improvement :

- Develop cost management plans and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and deliver strong margins for the business.

Operational Excellence :

- Implement quality assurance processes and best practices to drive delivery excellence.

- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and take corrective actions as needed.

- Ensure projects are completed on time, meet quality standards, and adhere to service level agreements.

Strategic Leadership :

- Define and execute the data engineering strategy, aligning it with market needs, client goals, and organizational priorities.

- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify data-driven opportunities and provide strategic recommendations.

Solution Delivery :

- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, robust, and efficient data pipelines, architectures, and workflows.

- Oversee the integration of diverse data sources while ensuring data quality, security, and compliance.

Team Development & Hiring :

- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data engineering team, promoting a culture of collaboration and innovation.

- Provide technical guidance and support, encouraging continuous learning and growth.

- Drive technical development initiatives and build learning paths for the team.

Thought Leadership :

- Contribute to thought leadership through blogs, whitepapers, and research reports.

- Build strong technical solutions and identify opportunities to create technology accelerators in the data engineering space, reducing time to value for customers and driving efficiencies.

- Foster partnerships with startups, cloud platforms, and other technology players.

Client Engagement :

- Collaborate with clients to understand their business challenges and translate them into actionable data solutions.

- Ensure timely project delivery within budget, exceeding client expectations.

Technology & Innovation :

- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, driving their adoption where applicable.

- Promote best practices in data governance, ETL processes, and data analytics.

Education & Experience :

- A Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.

- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Technical Expertise :

- Proficiency in modern data engineering tools and platforms (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Snowflake, AWS/GCP/Azure, Kafka).

- Expertise in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala) and strong SQL skills.

- Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and big data technologies.

Leadership Skills :

- Proven ability to manage and inspire diverse teams.

- Strong project management skills with a successful track record in delivering complex projects.

Soft Skills :

- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Problem-solving mindset, focused on delivering measurable business outcomes.
