Sr. Chemist / Chemist - Metal Testing - Pune Unit

Role & responsibilities

• Chemical Analysis and Testing: Perform chemical analysis of metals, alloys, and other materials using Spectroscopy as well as Classical/Wet Chemistry (Titration, gravimetric analysis, and other manual methods).
• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards for all testing and documentation processes. Participate in internal and external audits conducted by NABL.
• Implement and adhere to quality assurance measures to ensure the reliability and accuracy of results.
• Participate in inter-laboratory comparison (ILC) or proficiency testing (PT) programs to validate testing methods.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of all tests, including raw data, observations, and final results.
• Prepare and validate test certificates and reports for clients, ensuring traceability and compliance with NABL guidelines.
• Oversee regular calibration and preventive maintenance of analytical instruments. Identify and troubleshoot issues with equipment to minimize downtime. Collaborate with vendors for repairs, servicing, or upgrades when required.
• Identify opportunities for improving existing analytical techniques for better efficiency and accuracy. Conduct research and stay updated on advancements in chemical analysis methods relevant to metal testing.
• Safety and Environmental Compliance: Strictly adhere to safety protocols for handling chemicals and hazardous materials. Ensure proper disposal of chemical waste in compliance with environmental regulations. Conduct regular safety audits within the laboratory.
• Train and mentor junior chemists and technicians on proper analytical techniques and NABL protocols.
• Interact with clients to understand their testing requirements and provide technical clarifications when necessary.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
• Experience: 35 years (Chemist) or 6–8 years (Sr. Chemist) in a NABL-accredited lab focusing on chemical testing of metals/alloys.

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in spectrometric and wet chemistry techniques.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, proficiency testing (PT), and quality control practices.
• Familiarity with material standards such as ASTM, ISO, and BIS.

Soft Skills: Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and communication skills for client interactions.
