General Manager - Design

Role & responsibilities

1. Plan, direct and supervise departmental activities, including:

• Project planning, profiling and site survey for new projects
• Detailed inputs for costing
• All versions of drawings undertaken in-house
• Solutions and improvements for existing project

2. Regular and proactive coordination with external parties:

• Working with 3rd parties, for timely completion of all high-quality deliverables in scope, e.g. civil drawings, structural & mechanical etc.
• Liaising with universities and experts, for documentation review, incorporation of recommendations and certification

3. Monitor execution of project, through completion:

• Redesigning, resolving issues, if any
• Final review of project and Go-Ahead for operation
• Lead multiple projects and overseeing those from start to finish, and monitoring the staff members to ensure they adhere to the budget and timeline constraints.

4. Ensure timely and diligent maintenance of documentation:

• All necessary documentation, for old as well as new projects, to be stored in the stand-alone DRIL database
• All relevant documentation for new projects, in ERP system

5. Ensure effective six-monthly Employee Appraisal:

• Assign KRAs for Accounts team members, and align with them
• Conduct performance appraisal for team members, submit formal feedback
• Have strong people management and leadership skills in order to hire, develop, and inspire the team.

6. Living the culture

• The culture of a design team is essential to its long-term success, the Head of Design not only establishes the teams cultural values, but demonstrates them every day through their actions.

Preferred candidate profile

Requirements, Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Engineering is must; Mechanical preferred
• Having professional certification will be added advantages.
• 15+ years of total experience out of which 9-10 years must be heading a design dept.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to clearly and effectively communicate the vision, concepts, ideas, and solutions to stakeholders, internal teams, and clients.
• Extensive supervisory experience (including leadership, team-building, and delegation) leading and managing a technical team.
