Safety Supervisor

Role & responsibilities

• Identify potential hazards in the project and implement preventive measures.
• Design safety programs and procedures tailored to the project's needs, including emergency response plans.
• Stay up-to-date on safety regulations and standards such as OSHA, local laws, and industry-specific guidelines (e.g., API, IOGP).
• Ensure that workers are following safety protocols and regulations.
• Perform inspections of equipment, machinery, and work environments to ensure compliance.
• Address any unsafe behaviors or conditions and take corrective actions when necessary.
• Ensure that workers wear the proper protective gear as required.
• Provide training to workers on safety procedures, hazard awareness, emergency response, and the correct use of equipment.
• Lead safety inductions for new employees or contractors to ensure they are aware of site-specific hazards.
• Foster a safety-conscious work environment where employees actively report hazards and safety concerns.
• Lead the investigation of safety incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure that incidents are properly documented, and reports are filed with the relevant authorities or stakeholders.
• Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and safety audits for compliance purposes.
• Ensure that all activities align with environmental laws and that any environmental risks are mitigated.
• Regularly update project management on safety performance, including inspections, training, audits, and corrective actions.
• Ensure proper documentation of safety plans, permits, and compliance certificates.
• Create and implement emergency protocols for various situations, such as fires, gas leaks, or natural disasters.
• Organize and participate in regular safety drills (e.g., fire drills, evacuation drills) to prepare workers for emergency scenarios.
• Ensure the availability of first-aid equipment and trained personnel, and that procedures for handling medical emergencies are in place.
• Conduct periodic safety audits to evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures and identify areas for improvement.
• Monitor safety metrics (e.g., accident rates, near misses) to identify trends and improve safety practices.
• Keep up-to-date with new safety technologies, best practices, and regulatory changes in the oil and gas sector.
• Communicate safety issues, concerns, and improvements with senior management, contractors, and other departments.
• Encourage collaboration among workers, supervisors, and management to enhance safety awareness and culture.
• Communicate and collaborate with government and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Actively demonstrate safe work practices and a commitment to safety, encouraging others to follow suit.
• Stay vigilant and proactive in identifying potential hazards and acting quickly to mitigate risks.
