The main purpose of the roleis to be part of a team that provides quality, high impact and informative newsreports and analysis across a range of BBC News outlets, for Indian andInternational audiences predominantly on digital platforms (text, video andsocial) but also on TV and audio including radio.
As a field producer you willwork primarily with correspondents/reporters, video journalists/shoot-edits,other producers and technical staff, providing specialist and general coverageof news, events and trends across India and occasionally from outside thecountry.
You will also work closelywith all teams within other Indian Languages as well as wider teams in London,to share information, plans and deployment details.
You must have strong Digital(text/video/social) and TV production skills and be able to work alongsidecorrespondents on the scripting, structuring, and editing process. Knowledge ofradio production is desirable.
News is a high-pressure environment,and you should be able to demonstrate an ability to work within thatenvironment and to tight deadlines. You will be able to work as part of a team.Also, show experience in handling tense situations.
You will have significantexperience as a Field Producer at National and International (Desirable) level, with a track record of producing original and high impactjournalism. Experience of investigations is advantageous.
This role is responsible forleading on digital development within the team \u2013 so you will have a clearunderstanding of BBC World Service\u2019s digital strategy, with an understanding ofwhat works across different digital platforms/social media, and ideas about howwe can build and serve new audiences \u2013 especially women and younger audiences.In addition:
Able to demonstrate experienceof making high level decision on legally and editorially difficult stories.
Production knowledge ofstories that work for an International audience (Desirable) is important.
Working experience in hostileenvironments will be preferable.
Have successfully pitched,developed, and planned your own original story ideas for both domestic andglobal audiences, brimming with ideas and treatments on hard to tell stories.
Sharp journalistic instinct,knowing which stories to pursue for both domestic and international audiences.
Proven track record ofcreative storytelling, with concrete examples of breaking the mould onstories/formats that created impact across platforms.
Able to demonstrate a detailedgrasp of developments in South Asia and be knowledgeable of the politics ofIndia.
Familiar with negotiatingexclusive access, information or material and have a good network of contacts,both internally and externally.
This role will involveextensive travel so a willingness to work flexibly and travel at short noticein what is often a hostile environment is essential.
