Job Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the incumbent shall be responsible for leading the general insurance businesss underwriting operations, marketing, partial debt collection and claims functions, managing and guiding all strategies in line with the company policies, procedures and the overall company strategy in order to satisfy clients and managements expectations. General insurance business here means all classes of insurance except medical, life, pension, travel and mutual funds & other investments products for which a separate department handles them.

Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Risks inspection and management

Underwriting

Adequate understanding of the risks presented and covering under the most appropriate risk classes

  • Sourcing and preparing quotations with comparative proposals including tenders documentations within stipulated timelines
  • Technical knowledge of majority classes of general insurance
  • Preparation of renewal business reminders in good time, follow up, review and secure them
  • Timely processing of the documents/risk slips/motor certificates for the insurance companies and the insured by negotiating best terms, clauses and conditions favorable to the insured for all classes including motor, commercial lines, personal lines, marine etc.
  • Continuous product development / innovation or improvement
  • Solving reconciliation queries

ICT

  • Using electronic tools for diary, scheduling appointments, follow ups for tasks through chatting and groups and emails
  • Proficiency in Word/Excel/Powerpoint and related MS Office programmes or equivalent and Gmail systems including managing Google Drive files and keeping them in order with systematic labeling
  • To assist ERP system developers for designing the flow, reports, alerts, masters and testing during development phase and constant monitoring to improve it from time to time with adequate checks and controls

Business Development

  • Follow up with concerned marketers/Directors for open business enquiries/prospective future business
  • Marketing general insurance products and cross selling of non-general insurance products with the assistance of head of non-general business
  • Scheduling and attending meetings (including virtual) on regular basis bearing clients’ suitable maybe odd hours and days including upcountry places

Claims - in selective cases (Fully assisted by Claims department)

  • Follow up with the insured for pending claim documents
  • Accurate scrutiny of the documents where necessary
  • Claim negotiation with the loss adjusters, insurance companies and insureds

Departmental / General Competencies

  • Strong follow-up with stakeholders for pending tasks and timely achievement
  • Handling walk-in clients as well as outside the office for any kind of queries or any official duties assigned on a time to time basis
  • Monitoring strict credit control while issuing the insurance on credit
  • Management of the team and ensure productive output within the stipulated time exhibiting leadership skills. Overall supervision, appraisal, mentorship, training and development of staff in the department.
  • Keeping harmony and tasks coordination with other departmental heads
  • MIS reports designing, delivery and improvement from time to time basis
  • Ensuring proper records keeping of the department
  • Supervising and assisting a branch in the city of Mombasa
  • Keeping the desk tidy and organized all the time and ensuring the same for the subordinate staff
  • Decision making skills
  • Results driven
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for all modes of communications with all relevant stakeholders
  • Prompt communications with all stakeholders suitably using WhatsApp groups, broadcast groups etc
  • Fluency in English (Read, write and speaking) and workable knowledge of Gujarati and/or Hindi would be an added advantage
  • Scheduling and attending physical and virtual meetings
  • Accountability, Customer centric, Impactful and Influential
  • Car driving (Holding Driving Liscence)
  • Any other responsibilities/duties discussed and allocated from time to time

Qualifications: Graduate with engineering faculty. Also, Master with insurance option / independent Insurance Qualifications (Diploma/Certifications) would be an added advantage


Remuneration: We offer a net savings concept as we take care of all other local and reasonable living expenses.

Initially local savings will be more than 50% of your current savings.

Performance based attractive annual increment is offered
