Job Summary and Purpose

The CoE Trainer/Engineer Welding Technology will be responsible for overseeing the welding processes and techniques used in our shipbuilding and repair operations. This role involves developing welding procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and implementing cutting-edge welding technologies to enhance productivity and quality.

Description and Key Accountabilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain welding procedures and specifications in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Oversee and optimize welding processes, including SAW, FCAW, TIG, MIG, and other specialized techniques e.g. Panel Line welding stations (TTS Make).
• Conduct regular inspections and quality control checks to ensure weld integrity and compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Design and Engineering teams to provide input on weldability of materials and design considerations.
• To coordinate with TPI / Class / Owners representative for workmen qualification and certification for specific project requirements.
• Train and mentor welding personnel on best practices, new techniques, and safety protocols.
• Evaluate and implement new welding technologies and equipment to improve efficiency and quality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve welding-related issues during construction and repair projects. Conduct root cause analysis of welding defects and implement corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve the welding machines / equipment related issues. Maintain the welding machines which are kept as spare for future requirements.
• Maintain thorough documentation of welding procedures, qualifications, and inspections.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations related to welding operations.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in Shipbuilding/Petrochemical Industry/Heavy Engineering management, preferably within the shipbuilding, maritime, or heavy engineering sectors.
• Understating of AWS D1.1, IACS W32, W33, W47, ASME Sec II, Sec IX , ASTM
• Preparing and qualifying PQRs and WPSs for various materials and welding processes.
• Preferably certified for CSWIP 3.1
• Preferably certified in ASNT Level II in NDT techniques.

Functional and Behavioral Competency:

• Proficiency with various welding techniques and equipment.
• Strong knowledge of welding standards and codes (e.g., AWS, ASME, ISO).
• Demonstrated ability to develop and qualify welding procedures.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods.
• Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Understanding of metallurgy and material science as it relates to welding.
