Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backup Engineer – CommVault Specialist to join our IT infrastructure team. This senior role will serve as the primary escalation point for our CommVault backup environment, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our data protection solutions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of CommVault technologies, advanced troubleshooting capabilities, and a proven track record in leading backup and disaster recovery (DR) projects.

In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, this individual will play a critical role in shaping our backup policies, optimizing performance, and recommending enhancements to improve data protection strategies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Backup Operations:

• Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for CommVault backup and recovery solutions.
• Oversee daily backup operations, ensuring successful completion of jobs and prompt resolution of any failures.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and serve as the final escalation point for the support team.

2. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity:

• Design and execute disaster recovery (DR) exercises to validate data restoration capabilities.
• Implement and manage OneTouch Recovery and AutoRecovery processes.
• Maintain comprehensive DR documentation and ensure recovery objectives are met.

3. Policy and Configuration Management:

• Evaluate existing backup policies, recommend improvements, and implement optimized configurations.
• Develop and enforce best practices for data protection and retention.

4. Reporting & Monitoring:

• Implement and manage CommVault reporting solutions to monitor backup performance and compliance.
• Analyze reporting data to identify trends, optimize capacity, and proactively address issues.

5. Project Leadership:

• Lead backup-related projects, including new implementations, upgrades, and migrations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure backup solutions align with business needs.

6. Capability Expansion:

• Evaluate and recommend new CommVault features and capabilities, such as:
• IntelliSnap integration
• Virtual server protection
• Cloud storage integration
• File archiving
• End-user recovery solutions
• Stay current with CommVault updates, releases, and industry trends.

7. Team Collaboration:

• Provide mentorship and training to junior support staff.
• Develop and deliver knowledge-sharing sessions to ensure team readiness.

Required Qualifications

• Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure with a focus on backup and recovery solutions.
• At least 7 years of hands-on experience with CommVault technologies.
• Skills:
• Expertise in implementing and managing CommVault OneTouch and AutoRecovery.
• Strong knowledge of CommVault reporting, dashboard creation, and analytics.
• Familiarity with IntelliSnap, cloud integration, and advanced storage features.
• Experience with backup optimization for virtualized and physical environments.
• Certifications:
• CommVault Certified Professional or equivalent certification is preferred.
• ITIL, or other relevant certifications, are a plus.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
• Leadership experience and ability to mentor junior team members.
