Assistant Manager - Vehicle Integration

About the Team: Vehicle Integration Engineering involves the integration of various systems, sub-systems and components into a complete vehicle design. This role requires expertise in automotive engineering, as well as a strong understanding of vehicle systems and their interactions.

About the Role: As a Vehicle Integration Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and integration of various systems and components within a vehicle. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of the vehicle's mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.

Responsibilities:

• Vehicle integration: An engineer with 12-15 years of experience in the automotive industry specifically in two-wheelers. Must be capable of the following:
• System Integration: Collaborating with different engineering teams (such as powertrain, frames, electrical, and body panels) to integrate their respective systems into the overall vehicle design. This involves ensuring proper fitment, compatibility, and coordination between various subsystems.
• CAD Modelling: Create 3D models of vehicle components and assemblies using CAD software. This involves translating design concepts into detailed, precise models that can be used for manufacturing and integration.
• Design Optimization: Collaborate with the design team to optimize the components and systems for performance, weight reduction, manufacturability, and cost efficiency. Analyse and propose design improvements based on engineering principles and feedback from testing and validation.
• Assembly Design: Design the assembly processes, fixtures, and tooling required for efficient and accurate integration of vehicle components. This involves considering factors such as accessibility, ergonomics, and ease of assembly during the design phase.
• Tolerance Analysis: Perform tolerance analysis to ensure that the designed parts and assemblies meet the required functional and manufacturing tolerances. Identify critical dimensions and tolerances to prevent issues during production and assembly.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Apply DFM principles to ensure that the designed components and assemblies can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize design for the chosen manufacturing processes, such as injection moulding, machining, or sheet metal fabrication.
• Design Validation: Work closely with the testing and validation team to ensure that the designed components and systems meet the required performance and safety standards. Participate in testing activities to verify design integrity and identify areas for improvement.
• Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving integration issues and system conflicts that may arise during the development process. This requires a strong technical background and the ability to analyse complex problems and propose effective solutions.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of design changes, test results, and project progress. Providing regular reports to management and cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and coordination.

Required Skills: Experience:

• Min 12-15 years of experience in Mechanical Design, Product development and Manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including powertrain, chassis, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Proficient in engineering principles, design, and analysis methods.
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to vehicle integration.
• Role requires a combination of technical knowledge, project management skills, and collaboration abilities to successfully integrate various subsystems and components into a cohesive and functional vehicle design.
