Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

As an ESSH Leader, the ideal candidate will be responsible for driving the site to best-in-class ESSH performance for the Environmental, Safety, Security, and Health program(s). This role requires an individual who possesses influencing skills, managerial leadership, technical expertise, and a continuous improvement mindset. This individual should be solution-based, enjoy technical hands-on work while being able to drive a big-picture strategy with regards to ESSH related issues.

TARGETED OUTCOMES

  • Develop familiarity with APMI site manufacturing and support processes.
  • Build strong partnering relationship with FTE and Resident Contractor Management Team
  • Gain trust of line staff so that they can effectively operate as a ESSH technical resource.
  • Build working relationships with government agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Environmental Program Leadership

  • Ensure all Safety, Health and Environmental equipment is available, reliable, and well maintained; Provides PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) emphasis / training (safety shoes, ear protectors, gloves, etc.)
  • Recommend and implement site improvements in the areas of occupational safety & environmental exposure reduction
  • Promote continuous improvement within all levels of the organization by transferring knowledge that has been acquired through formal and informal training
  • Function as a resource for troubleshooting/problem solving ESSH issues
  • Oversee or conduct Regulatory and Training as required; coordinate training with outside resources and agencies as needed
  • Manage the Hazard Communication Program
  • Manage the incident and injury reporting process and system
  • Manage mandatory company ESSH reporting
  • Develop and manage the sites ESSH budget
  • Provide purchasing support for ESSH items
  • Manage hazardous and solid waste programs directing business partners and Employees on expectations
  • Coordinate wastewater and storm water management programs; Crisis Management and Emergency Evacuation programs; Air Emissions programs; and Fire Prevention Program
  • Cooperates with agencies providing consultancy for safety, environmental and fire protection
  • Research, develop, and execute ESSH ideas to reduce costs and to ensure compliance with ESSH Standards and Guidelines, government regulations
  • Communicates on routine matters with all levels of the site organization through face-to face meetings, e-mail, hardcopy and electronic postings.
  • Problem solve and provide/receive support from Operations Managers in person, by phone, and through correspondence
  • Ensure incident investigation tools are used to determine incident root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Select and set specifications for new ESSH equipment and tools
  • Role modeling the Ascend Values.
  • Accountable for meeting or exceeding safety and quality standards
  • Meets business needs by flexing scheduled work hours or contributing additional work hours when needed
  • Other job functions that may be assigned
  • Comply with all safety/health/environmental related policies and procedures, participates in company sponsored safety programs and activities, and reports to management those conditions or actions by employees or others that might create a hazard to themselves or others in the plant. Reports any work-related injury or illness, no matter how minor, to their manager.

Environmental Metrics & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and track leading and lagging measures of Environmental performance for the site.
  • Maintain relevant compline and others certification for the site.
  • Ensure environmental input is provided for all management of change (MOC) requests within the facility, while driving site-wide risk mitigation for all environmental legacy risk on-site.
  • Ensure the sites RCRA, and all other water, wastewater, soil, and waste regulatory requirements are completed in a timely manner. Assist in all other areas of Environmental as needed
  • Maintain environmental compliance with all global, current State, and local standards and understand future possible regulatory changes in EHS, legislation that may be impacted by environmental performance and minimize/mitigate risk.

TEAM

  • Reports to: Site Director

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Degree Health/Safety, Industrial Hygiene, applicable engineering discipline, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in the area of environmental regulations or Process Safety Management within a manufacturing operations facility
  • Professional certification desired.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written) at various levels throughout the organization and with local, state, and global regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Basic knowledge of general health and safety EHS regulations.
  • Routinely organize and lead peer and subordinate groups in efforts to implement company policy and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Operate a team oriented ESSH organization which is dedicated to accomplishing the company’s stated goals by providing accurate, consistent and timely results to its customer base. Role & responsibilities
