ABOUT APNI SHALAApni Shala was co-founded in 2013, and has been working since then towards building social
and emotional competencies among individuals to constructively engage with society and
have a harmonious coexistence. We are working towards a 3-fold mission:
? creating promotive and preventive mental health programs in partnership with schools
? offering professional development opportunities to teachers, educators and mental
health professionals
? running a research-based school that integrates academic and social and emotional
competency development.
Apni Shalas approach to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is informed by Collaborative of
Academic Social and Emotional Learning Framework(CASEL, USA), Narrative Practices, Diversity
& Inclusion, Constructivist Learning Theory, and Mindfulness. Over a period of 9 years, Apni Shala
has worked with over 8000 young people. Our work is aimed at not just students but also
teachers and caregivers in the ecosystem. Apni Shala is funded by institutional grants, individual
donations and revenues through workshops. We strongly believe that the individual passions of
each team member fuel the growth of the organization and give it direction. Personal and
professional development of our staff is therefore important to us at Apni Shala and it forms a
major part of every team members journey with the organization.

SOCIAL WORK SUPPORT? Student learning and welfare
? Work to reduce student dropout rate and academic continuity
? Health & Nutrition along with Mid day meal distribution
? Socio-emotional support to students
? Ongoingly ensuring child safety
? Community development? Ongoingly build knowledge and understanding of the community
? Identify and build relationships with NGOs in the community and outside to
support community development goals
? Visit homes of students towards building relationships and understanding
context of students and families
? Parents and caregivers as partners? Support planning and execution of caregiver/parent meetings
? Ongoingly gather information regarding caregiver needs to inform decision
making
? SMC (Capacity building and involvement of the members)? Work with community development team to build the capacity of the SMC
members
? Engaging the SMC in school-wide initiatives
? Engaging the SMC in community level initiatives
? Government Compliance & Relations:? Coordinate with the Social Worker to prepare and maintain registers on students
and teachers which acts as a leading data to prepare GR reports.
? Identify and maintain relations with committees and other mediums in the
building.
? Reporting and Documentation:? Create reports on the progress of the work done in community
development
? Maintain data regularly (monthly reports, conversation with caregivers etc
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES? Strong Oral and Written communication skills
? Good planning and organizing skills
? Understanding of English, Hindi and Marathi (verbal and written)
? Knowledge and understanding of social issues
? Proficient in MS Office , Google drive Apps
