Sr TPM, Contextual Advertising, COMET

We are seeking a talented, technically strong and highly motivated Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead this critical initiative to build differentiated new advertising products for Amazon.

Contextual Advertising is an exciting new frontier for the advertising industry, with the deprecation of critical identifiers like cookies. We are building an industry-leading solution to this disruptive challenge, leveraging the latest in generative AI and distributed systems engineering. As a TPM on the Comet team, you will be responsible for driving the long-term strategy, architectural vision and core infrastructure that powers Amazons contextual advertising solutions.

Advertising at Amazon is a fast-growing, multi-billion dollar business that spans across desktop, mobile, and connected devices, encompassing ads on Amazon and a vast network of hundreds of thousands of third-party publishers globally. Comet, Amazon Ads contextual infrastructure, powers ad programs across Amazon by providing contextual signals from 3P and 1P properties. The team owns the extraction and generation of a wide range of contextual signals using the latest in generative AI and engineering.

To enable this, the Comet team builds large-scale real-time internet-scale crawling, data processing and machine learning solutions. We process bid requests in the orders of tens of billions per day with our real-time, batch, and stream processing systems. We are not tied to one technology but instead use what is best suited for the purpose. All of our systems tend to be loosely coupled, communicating using synchronous and asynchronous messaging, leading to a classic distributed processing architecture. Additionally, all our systems need to implement low latency machine learning and optimization algorithms at scale.

We are seeking a TPM who possess very strong stakeholder management, program management and well-rounded technical capabilities. They have the ability to track multiple diverse projects through their lifecycle. You must be able to thrive and succeed in a complex and fast paced environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. As a TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.

- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience defining KPIs/SLAs used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

A day in the life
You will work with cross functional stakeholders across engineering, product and data science leadership to define engineering and product strategy. You will deliver state of the art machine learning based technical solutions that will power several contextual advertising products across Amazon Ads. - 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
