General Manager Operations - Tool Room - Injection Molding

Purpose of Position

Alpine Lifecares need is Injection Molding Molds (vs. general molds). Need a hands-on Tool Room Manager to occupy the position. The role will work to establish, document, and continually improve our standard work procedures for the Toolroom department. Key functions of this position include inventory and evaluation of production tooling to ensure that it is kept in good working condition. This includes making decisions about how to repair molds and where the repair work is to be performed. Another key function of this position is to work with the technical personnel at the site and Division level in the maintenance, refurbishment and replacement schedules for molds. The manager will implement a tool tracking system that will establish preventative maintenance routines & schedules, tool verification methods, sampling, and the cataloging of new and modified tooling. This person must also be highly self-motivated and be able to satisfy both internal and external customer requirements while promoting employee engagement.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Tool Design & Manufacturing, Die trails & Components proving, Tool Room & Development of New Products.
• Leading project team in project feasibility study, estimate process cycle time, prepare quote &tool development from outsourced as well as In-house.
• Follow up and co-ordination with Mould makers for Design and mould clearance.
• Proactively identify areas of obstruction/breakdowns and take steps to rectify the failures.
• Costing - Material Cost, MHR, Pricing of New Product & Estimation & Planning of plastic injection moulds
• Tooling performance evaluation in respect of tool process, tool life, tool quality and suit the production requirements. Implementation of low-cost automation.
• Troubleshoot shop issues involving equipment, machinery and tooling and lead solution implementation.
• Specify and procure new fixtures, equipment and tooling needed to meet production demand and product quality requirements.
• Develop and maintain shop methods standard work and procedures.
• Work with Design Engineering, to resolve production issues and/or implement improvements.
• Standardization of Mould base and moulds parts.
• Liaison to Suppliers and coordinate any contract work to be performed.
• Manage and schedule tooling repairs.
• Manage and maintain revision control of tooling drawings.
• Ensures employees have a thorough understanding of their job tasks and any safety hazards and preventive measures that need to be taken that are associated with the work.
• Maintains inventory of spare parts and supplies and issues purchase requisitions, expense reports and capital expenditure request.
• Responsible for the execution, improvement and compliance of a tooling preventive maintenance program.
• Track all tooling assets. Manage documentation associated with tooling CAD and paper files.
• Ensuring different Tool cost saving plans & implementation to ensure low cost & high-quality concept
• Plan regular planned / breakdown maintenance and for new mould delivery on a weekly, monthly basis.
• Identify problems, give solutions to overcome and ensure part meets specification.
• Give continuous improvement suggestions on a monthly basis. he must also motivate other members on team to come up with suggestions for improvement.
• Demonstrate good team building skills.

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

• New Mould Development and Mould maintenance to be completed on time and first time correct
• Create, Review & optimize mould design, prepare DFM and discuss with Customer
• New mould to be completed on time, within budget and handed over to production with all relevant documentation
• Mould history cards to be maintained up-to-date
• Planning Daily, weekly, and monthly plans to be prepared for preventive / breakdown and new moulds

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):

• Minimum 10 years of experience in design and manufacture in tool moulds of which last 5 years in a leadership position managing a team of 4.
• High knowledge in tight tolerance molds
• High Knowledge in hot runner system
• Knowledge in Solidworks, autocad fusion 360
• Experience Designing Fixtures and mechanical components.
• Expertise in heat treatment of steel
• Experience in machining of different materials for the manufacture of molds
• Mold Flow Knowledge
• Knowledge of Injection molding machine maintenance in varies tonnages
• Experience commissioning and decommissioning Injection Molding Machines
• Must have experience manufacturing moulds with hot runner system, critical dimension moulds, collapsible core, exposure to mould finishing activities such as laser etching, chemical etching etc.
• Having a range of IT skills and Design Software skills.

Education:

Engineering BS or MS Degree, desired molding science related, or Mechanical related
