4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Students that come under green channel had to write just the email writing test for 10 minutes, which involves phrasing words given in jumbled order in a way to make a meaningful letter draft.

For others (including me), there were 2 parts.
First a 10 minutes email writing test and then a Quantities based aptitude test.
Second part was for 80 minutes, 30 Questions were asked from Percentage, Probability, and General Aptitude topics. SI and CI were not there neither were the train problems.
Tips: 1. Avoid guessing as there was a negative marking of 0.333 marks for each question.
2. For email writing, not much is required few times practice would do. Need to have good typing speed to save time. Check for spelling errors while writing. Also you need to use all the phrases given as hint in the question.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: I had a very pleasant interview. It was a panel of 3 male interviewers. They made me feel very comfortable.
Asked me questions like Had your lunch? How’s your day going on?

After that they asked me questions from my Resume,
Mainly on my areas of interest and Technical paper that I had written.

The surprising part was I wasn’t asked anything from Programming, though I was being interviewed for an IT job,
So as my Area of interest was optical communication. They asked me to explain Photoelectric effect, which I did. One of the panelist was sitting with a laptop, and he was using that to Google on my areas of interest to generate questions but I knew the trick already, and had done my preparation by going through the search results on Google for my areas of interest.
As I am from ECE stream, he asked me difference between 2G and 3G, I answered it to some extent. They kept asking me on Optical part, which I was very comfortable with. They asked me whether I was interested in Embedded system design, for which I said yes. Some more technical questions based on my areas of interest were asked. Few questions on my Hobbies were asked. They asked me to list my Strengths and Weaknesses. And finally the typical question, whether I had any issue in relocating while on job.

It all went fine,I had the smile on my face through out the interview. It was very pleasant experience.
Tips: 1. Some of my friends were asked few programming questions, so one should keep a good grip on that too.
2. I would recommend one to do his homework well, be confident, and talk in a polite, to clear the interview.

General Tips: 1. Be confident. TCS recruits a large number, so your chances are always very good.
2. Be confident with your areas of interest, Google them and go, read all the search result, as that is what they will ask.
3. Be polite and have a smile on your face.
Answer precisely and to the point, don’t elaborate too much.

3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Aptitude, general knowledge of engineering subjects, only theoretical concepts of programming for non-computer science students.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Three interviewers for HR, MR, and technical Interviewing simultaneously. I was asked whether I was ready to work anywhere around the country and in night shifts. Once I agreed, the actual interview process started where I was asked first to introduce myself. They briefly glanced at my resume and asked my area of interest. Once I answered that, they turned their entire attention to technical and I faced only technical based questions till the end of my interview. I answered the ones I could, made a few guesses (but let them know that I was guessing) and was unable to answer a couple. I was smiling and tried looking confident even when I could not answer. Eventually a call came on one of the interviewers’ phone. I waited till he finished the call, then somewhat unexpectedly my interview ended and an interviewer wished me luck and said that I could leave.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The level of the test was approachable. The verbal section contained of 2 -3 each of synonyms, antonyms, para-jumbles etc. It also had 2-3 reading comprehensions, easy to solve yet time-taking.
The analytical part contained of syllogisms etc. It has 2-3 flowcharts & bar-graphs to be answered too, yet the section was easy, I mean a person could easily attempt all 25 questions correctly.
The quantitative part contained of questions from probability, time & work, time speed & distance, algebra, sequences etc.
Tips: Keep an eye on the remaining time.
Duration: 90 minutes
Total Questions: 75

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interview went smooth the interviewer questioned me about the noticeable drift in my 10 and 12 marks. Being a student from EEE stream, he inquired me on my final year project. He checked me on my knowledge of C programming as well, and also about my strengths and weakness(with a justification).

The interview was an overall interactive session, he asked me a few thing, I inquired about the designation that we would serve on being recruited. I can say the interview went well….and so did happen with all of my other batch mates.
