Experience: One round interview completely based on project.Project-“ Strengthening of steel girder bridge using carbon fibre fabric composites”

General Tips: Proper score in test and confidence in GD and interview.
I felt they were looking for project management courses, to some extent related to the projects.
They asked whether I could work anywhere in the country and I said yes and also I was ok with the package they were offering me, so I think this is the reason why they selected me.

Do project well.

3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: They considered those with CGPA over 7 and looked for students who cleared CFA-I.

Round: Interview
Experience: They asked finance related questions (mostly Accounting questions, and any other expertise in finance you might have mentioned). Also, questions based on the resume too (projects, etc).
Tips: Preparing accounting fundae is beneficial, other courses like Infrastructure Finance (core course in my case) would help. Prepare for NCFM and CFA-I. These will surely help.

Round: Interview
Experience: Typical HR questions like your interests, strengths, weakness, etc were asked.
Tips: Don’t prepare for typical HR questions, that’s a blunder. My advice would be to start thinking and writing answers for HR questions, and just mug up those.

General Tips: Good CGPA always helps. Find out your interests very early, and put extra effort into those. Practice math like CAT questions, etc (even if you are not preparing for MBA), many companies have those tests.
Skill Tips: Started my preparations in August. Starting earlier might have helped, especially in HR round. (Don't prepare for typical HR questions, that’s a blunder).

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: There was only a resume based selection. And it seemed they looked into the projects which were done.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: There was only a resume based selection. And it seemed they looked into the projects which were done.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR round for ETLP primarily tried to see how the candidate deals with conflicts in the team which he may be leading. This they did by telling the candidate to recount stories from life where they either learned something, or had to implement a solution which didn't work, or had to settle a dispute and so on. The HR interview consisted of many questions where one had to "recount" stories from the past.
Tips: I feel I was selected mainly for the projects and internships (mainly the six month internship). It’s also important that the candidate be in control of where the interview is going so that he can bring it to his strong points.

Go through the projects done and know them inside-out.

General Tips: Look through important formulae and theory section. For core, be thorough with basic core fundamentals. It may help in an interview.

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Fairly lengthy discussion on the six month intern. Other questions also mainly about projects done.
Tips: Clear understanding of work done in intern.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Asked to site instances where... 'You showed your leadership skills'. 'Had a difference of opinion with mentor/manager at intern', 'you formed a good friendship with someone'...

They shortlisted about 25-30 people for interviews. Cg (>8.2) was definitely a criteria. I think having projects in fem or control systems helped. Not mandatory though.
Tips: Good communication skills.

For core: Know your projects inside-out. Revise fundamentals of some basic courses (strength of materials, control systems, fem).

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I had a single interviewer. I started by telling about myself. After the general stuff, I moved on to the core engineering areas that I am interested in and the projects I had done. I was asked to explain any one of them. I did that pretty well and I guess he was impressed by the way in which I explained them. He asked me only a simple question after letting me choose the topic. He suggested FEA, but when I said I am not very comfortable with that we moved to mechanics (I suggested it).

Round: HR Interview
Experience: How another person would describe you, your interests, what you do to improve yourself, what have you done to improve your career, why Eaton, why no higher studies, where do you see yourself in 3-5 years, greatest achievement, one time when you went against authority, one time when you had a bad relationship with someone and how you sorted it out, strengths, weaknesses..usual HR stuff
Tips: Focus on courses that you really like and know them in and out. Also be very thorough on the projects that you have done. Speaking with confidence really helps. I wasn't really prepared, so for the HR questions I was quite frank even if I took some time. It would be good to think about all that you have done while going through common HR questions.

I could do well on the tech part since I could direct it to my comfort zones. I talked for about 15minutes on my DDP project. I had good projects on my resume and I think that helped too. I was able to direct my interviewer to my intern/DDP in the beginning itself. That was a good idea.

General Tips: I had a thorough understanding of my projects. It is good to have a very good understanding of the basics in the courses that you like/that are relevant.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Thermo D, Turbomachinery, R & AC cycles, Design of Machine elements and Manufacturing were given importance in the test. Majority of questions were simple conceptual questions like what are the processes in a Rankine cycles,Stiffness of springs in series and parallel, etc
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 100

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: We were asked to assume roles of different managers HR, Supply Chain, Production etc in a pharma company and discuss a problem they are facing. The usual ones, initiating the discussion, giving people a chance to speak, supporting others, paying attention to what others are saying, positively commenting on others points, steer the discussion towards the topic at hand if and when it gets diverted. Though we were given particular roles, some of us contributed to others' as well. Like " If I may have the permission of the Supply Chain Manager, I know a transport company that does the delivery of our goods at cheaper prices, it would be really helpful for the company if you would kindly contact them."
Tips: Be aware of the time but do not keep looking at your watch. Take a pen and book, not some stuff.

Round: Interview
Experience: I was asked to tell everything about myself. What my father does, where I am from, where I studied, my academic interests, achievements, projects. When I said that I had done some group projects, some specific questions were asked like
1. How do you select your team ( group ) ?
2. What will you do if your team's work isn't up to the mark ?
3. What will you do if a member of your team always skips work ?

As you might have noticed already, my language is not so great but I spoke loudly, clearly and confidently. I have shown them my grade card and they were clearly impressed from the 6.7 to 8.5 improvement of my GPA. The thing I said about my liking to do hands on work, the way I answered Tech and HR questions made me a better choice of the three Mech guys shortlisted, though I was the one with least CG of the three. I also quoted some of the points I liked about the company and matched my interests to the company's. I also quoted some points from their PPT showing them that I was really interested in pursuing a career with them.
Tips: It is always a good idea to go through the company's website and get an understanding of the company's values and ideals. Be thorough about yourself, they may ask questions from any part of your life. I referred to the HR questions in IndiaBIX. Placement prep material uploaded by Sumit was also very helpful.

General Tips: Thermodynamics, IC Engines, R & AC, Turbomachinery, DME, Strength of materials, Engineering Materials, Manufacturing were important for core tests. Targeted preparation does not always help meaning a company can ask questions from any or all of the three major streams. So basics of concepts are important and must be revised from time to time.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resume shortlist- peaks in the resume: An all-round and dynamic personality, ability to multi-task and handle pressure, proactive nature and initiatives taken in PORs, achievements in the field of sports, literature and arts contribute in resume short listing.

They look for people who’ve used their time in institute wisely and are passionate about things they do. A crisp and well written resume forms a good first impression. Invest enough time to prepare the resume and get it reviewed by seniors.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: First round was HR. Second had some puzzles, discussion on current affairs. Basic understanding of current affairs is tested. Rather than just being aware about the global and national issues, it’s important to know a few issues/events in detail and take a stand on them. You can let the interviewer know which events you are aware about and direct the course of the interview.

Case study:

1) Identifying the reasons for loss incurred by a motel (relevant data was provided)
2) Evaluating different aspects of setting up a business
3) Guesstimate: Estimate the number of windows in a skyscraper
4) Estimate the scope of 4G in India. Is introducing 4G a good idea?reas
5) A foreign elevator company operating in India is incurring losses. What are the likely issues and how can they be fixed

General Tips: The standard HR questions can be found online. Also be prepared to answer questions like 'why do you want to join our company?', 'why do you prefer a career in investment banking over consulting' or vice versa. Know you resume inside out as some HR questions will be directly based on you resume. Highlight you role, achievement and learning outcome while answering such questions.

Whatever you do in life, do it with passion. It’s this passion that’ll take you far in life. These four/ five years in IIT are the most crucial years to mould the personality of an individual. Seize every opportunity you and make the most of it. Manage time well and prioritize various activities. Try to get industrial exposure through internships. Good communication skills and a confident personality are very important.
Skill Tips: Started reading economic times from the beginning of 7th sem. One month was sufficient to prepare. However, one can start preparing puzzles and reading up Economic Times a little earlier.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Interview
Experience: 1st round: Panel of two. Asked questions about the projects which were mentioned in the resume. A few questions were asked about the core intern which I did. Asked about the family background.10 got selected in the next round of interviews.
I think for the second round of interviews they selected on basis of CG.
No case studies were asked Just my opinion was asked in certain topics in the second interview which was taken by the partner of the firm. He asked my opinion about construction in India.
I did well in the interview and they liked my story about my projects.
Tips: I think for the second round of interviews they selected on basis of CG.
I started preparing in Mid-November. I think placement is more about yourself. Starting earlier doesn't help.

General Tips: 2nd years: Decide where your interest lies. Have a decent CG at least above 8.
3rd years: Know your interest. Have mock PIs and GDs.

Be genuine. If you don’t know something just tell them, do not act to be over-smart.Just revise your basic level courses. Revise Contracts, IPM, Construction Management.
