Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was aptitude and tech test. Duration was around 1 hr. Tech was based on fundamental concepts in structural engineering. First shortlist was based on this.
Duration: 60 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Criteria for getting shortlisted at each stage of the process was student shouldn’t have any backlogs throughout. Asked me to explain some methods of analysis in structural engineering.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Two rounds of interview. First tech, then followed by HR interview for those who were selected in tech round

General Tips: They weren’t looking for any particular course or project. Short listing was purely based on the written test. And I think I got selected because I expressed my interest in structural engineering and convinced the
interviewer, even though my specialization was Infrastructural Engg. I showed all the courses I did in structural engineering and explained my DDP, which is also related to structural engineering.I targeted companies with structural engineering (core) profile. I didn’t do any separate preparation for placements. But, I was doing some courses in structural engineering that semester, so I was in touch with all the concepts.
Skill Tips: They weren’t looking for any particular course or project. Short listing was purely based on the written test.In recruiting process projects do matter a lot. My suggestion is it is better to do 2 or 3 good projects apart from regular course projects. For companies that go through resume based short listing, projects are very important. Make use of summer and winter holidays for doing projects.
College Name: IIT MADRAS
Motivation: Applied to: SVINT Engineering Pvt Ltd, W.S.Atkins India Pvt Ltd, Arup India Pvt Ltd.SVINT isn’t a good company. In TCE, even though the package is less, standards are good. Arup focused only on HR interview (for an hour) and nothing technical.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Basic CAT level questions of Data Sufficiency
Tips: CAT preparation would help. Strong basics in High school mathematics needed, along with some smart thinking at times.
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Questions: 50

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: 15 minutes given for an almost impossible to get an answer problem. Later asked to explain your solution. The approach matters much much more than the final answer.
Tips: Be cool, think basics. Don't forget elementary things that units conversion, unitary methods, probability distributions etc. If while explaining, you realize you actually made a mistake while attempting the problem, acknowledge it and explain the correct approach from there on, rather than trying to disguise your mistake.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Things like, why Citi, prior experience with data analytics, examples from real life for mathematical concepts highlighted in Resume. Some general awareness related questions asked!
Tips: Be thorough through the resume. Act smart and reply what they want to hear. It's okay to ask them for a few minutes in case you want to think before answering something rather than mumbling what comes to your mind first!

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Again things like why Citi, why analytics. This round seemed more out of formality than for selection.

General Tips: Keep calm, and take the interview as a conversation - unless it's a stress interview. Always take your time and think before you answer anything rather than mumbling out the first thing that comes to your mind.
Skills: Probability, Statistics, Analytical skills
College Name: IIT MADRAS
Motivation: Needed a break into the Finance sector!

6 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: There is not much in resume they looked at apart from CGPA(grades)
Tips: Nevertheless, having experience in coding and a bit of statistics would get you an edge over others

Round: Test
Experience: Section1: It was not very tough if ONE prepares for CAT and gives this test.
Section2: puzzles and pseudo codes were asked. The difficulty rating of puzzles was 3.5/5. They are logical puzzles and not mathematical
There was enough time for each question in both the sections.
Tips: In case of a tie in the later rounds of interview I felt preference was given to people who performed well in section2. So if there is a time crunch, i would recommend to answer section2 rather than section1
Duration: 75 minutes
Total Questions: 30

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: I have not encountered the puzzles they asked me in the interview. It was farely new and first time experience. I said I was interested in chess. So they asked me a permutations and combinations question with chess theme. I dont remember the question though. Depending on how much you solve the question they award 0.5 or 1 mark. Totaly they asked me 4 questions. I scored 2.5
Tips: If you get stuck dont hesitate to ask questions. They would be willing to help you out

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: They asked me about projects i mentioned in my resume. Didn't grill me too much but they surely tested my understanding
Tips: Please mention about the project only if you are very sure of it. Else it would fetch you a negative impression and they will start questioning your credibility

Round: HR Interview
Experience: She asked about my interests and my willingness to work at chennai. retrospectively, I think HR round was a mere formality
Tips: Its better to give answer in a fashion they expect it rather than the truth

General Tips: Do practice puzzles well and brush up your programming skills. There is no reason why you wouldnt get selected for this company.
Skill Tips: VBA and R programming will get you an edge over your non- programming peers as it will save company time
