4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Aptitude section won't be a problem.Questions were simple and straight forward.
Decent knowledge of C and C++ will be enough to answer the Programming section.
I chose communication in the 3rd section.I was expecting questions related to signal processing. But most of the questions were related to communication like modulation, quantization level, Shanon's therom etc.The course wasn't done yet for us.So I was able to answer only 5-6 questions and the remaining I took some calculated guesses to the best of my knowledge
Tips: Select communication profile only if you had done a proper communication course.Signals and Systems & Digital Signal Processing courses won't be enough. While preparing concentrate on one area and prepare well.It will be useful for both exam as well as the interview. While answering the 1st two sections of the test time management is important as the questions are easy and given the time everyone can answer all the questions
Total Questions: 60

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I attended the technical interviews for both Communication and Software profiles.
For the communication profile it's advantageous to remember transformations for some common functions. And you need to have clarity about what you are doing. The basics should be strong.
The Software interview was chill. All the questions were about basic C.And for some guys puzzles were asked
Tips: A good resume always helps you out in some situations.I kind of cupped in the Comm round. But in the Software round in the beginning of the interview itself she asked about my areas of interest and my projects. She asked me to explain in detail about one of the projects of my choice and she was really impressed with the idea of that project. After that the interview was chill only

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR round was just a formality. He called me and informed that I have been selected in Software profile and the location will be Hyderabad.Other than that nothing was there.
Although for some of the other candidates they completely asked about the resume and some routine questions

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The first two sections were relatively easy. Section 1 had some probability and comprehension style questions. Section 2 had questions on C programming, Computer architecture, and data structures. Manage your time properly. Don't get stuck on a question for too long. Revise C syntax and precedence of operators for the basic programming section. The communication section was relatively tougher. It required knowledge of modulation schemes(QAM, BPSK, MSK and so on), Digital signal processing.
Tips: Manage your time properly. Don't get stuck on a question for too long. Revise C syntax and precedence of operators for the basic programming section. If you have not done a course on communication systems opt for the electronics or software test.
Duration: 90 minutes
Total Questions: 60

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: My technical round involved a mix of technical and personal questions. The technical questions asked were easy, possibly because the interviewer liked my answers to some of the personal questions.
Tips: Read about Qualcomm beforehand. Qualcomm allowed students to interview for any profile irrespective of the test they chose to write. Try to focus on one profile(software, hardware or communication)

General Tips: Even if your test goes bad you still have a good chance of making it to the interviews.
Skills: Digital Signal Processing - DSP, C Programming

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Tips: Try not to lie in the resume.
Make sure the formatting is crisp.
Do not forget to highlight important points

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: I felt the GD was slightly chaotic, with a lot of cross talk. Thus we couldn't deliberate on some important points as the course of discussion was being continuously shifted and some subtle details were overlooked. Our group came to a conclusion a tad bit too early after which our moderator questioned us possible situations and scenarios that we hadn't taken into consideration. Two people made it through the GD, me and a friend of mine.
Tips: Make sure the moderator notices you. For that be loud and clear while you talk.
Address the group as a whole. Maintain eye contact with everyone.
A common myth as far as GDs are concerned is that the person who talks the most goes through. You might talk for 20 minutes straight and still might not make it through if you do not put across relevant points.
Think before you speak. Only speak if you have something that would really add value to the discussion. Avoid repeating or reframing points that have been already made by other members.
Listen to other people. Always remember that the group as a whole is being judged.
Keep a track of noteworthy points made by other members by writing them down on a notepad. This will help you conclude better and ensures that you don't miss out on anything important.
The most important aspect, make sure that the group comes to a conclusion. The whole exercise of the GD is to come to a decision and not just analysis.
Duration: 25 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It started out with the interviewer asking a few HR questions about life at IIT and how IIT had helped mould myself. Following questions were based on my summer internship project and theory/practical application of heat exchangers. The interviewer was very encouraging throughout and didn't try to grill me. I fumbled a bit in certain questions but managed to answer them after a few hints by the interviewer.
Tips: A major part of your technical interview would be on the theory behind the projects that you have undertaken. So make sure that you are thorough with the theory behind them.
A basic knowledge of all courses that you have completed is expected and most of the questions are application based. So brushing up all your course would definitely help.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: My HR in my opinion was pretty peaceful. It comprised of generic HR questions.
Tips: Try framing a story around every question. For that expect what questions they might ask you and be ready with answers for them beforehand.
Do some background research on the companies. Employers are generally pleased if you quote facts related to company you are interviewing for and it also shows that you have done you homework and that you are genuinely interested in the position they have to offer.

General Tips: Be aware of the company you are applying to.
Make sure your subject basics are good.
Try to attend Mock GDs. It will help you practice and analyse your wea
Skills: Talking Ability, Ability To Think Out Of The Box, Ability To Deal Diplomatically, Ability To Justify, Ability To Improvise, Ability To Think On Your Feet, Ability To Think Of Creative Solutions, Ability To Think Beyond Boundaries, Ability To Convince, Ability To Express Your Ideas, Ability To Be Involved In Hands On Work, Ability To Analyse

College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: HUL has one of the most reputed internship programmes in the country. They treat their interns like any other employee and the projects they offer have a very high learning curve helping you to gain multiple skill sets in a short duration of time.
