3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: They had shortlisted around 40 people to the Group discussion round from the test. The test consisted of basic aptitude,VA and some coding questions. They had given us 2 minutes to write down the points ans 20 minutes to go ahead with the group discussion. They looked for knoweldge, leadership nature and the clarity in our thoughts during the GD's. They didnot have any limit as to how many people they would select for the personal interview round. Some groups had 6-7 people who had proceeded to the further round whereas some didnot have any.
Tips: Keep yourself updated regarding all the current events. Carry a notebook and write down all the relevant and important points. Also preparing for CAT helps us in clearing the test

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: They asked questions related to coding and cases & guesstimates as well. They also just asked me some core and hypothetical questions to just gauge as to how I would react. They selected if the candidates knew either coding or was good in cases & guesstimates. I personally was not that great on coding.
Tips: Be confident. Practicing case studies and guesstimates would surely help if you are not interested in coding.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Genral HR round
Tips: Prepare for all standard HR questions. ( Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Why specifically AllState? Why should we hire you? Tell me about yourslef.)

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test consists of two sections. First section is Aptitude and it has 30 questions (30 minutes). This section has questions on numerical ability, logical reasoning and verbal ability. Each question carries 2 marks and no negative marks. Second section is technical section and this section has 50 questions and each one carries 1 mark (30 minutes). For mechanical engineering stream, the questions were asked mainly from materials science, strength of materials. Remaining questions were asked from other core subjects. All the technical questions were theoretical questions and no problem solving.
Tips: Briefly touch up all the core mechanical subjects and you will be through the test.
Duration: 1 hour

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: Firstly, a form was given before the interview. In the form, they asked us to fill all our bio data, projects we have done and some basic HR questions. There's only one interviewer. The first question was "Tell me about yourself". He asked based on what we have written in the form. He asked about my goals, role model and also about the company. He mostly checked whether I am interested in the company or not.
Feedback from others - Projects, Interns and technical questions on material science.

6 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Out of 99 B.Tech students who applied from CH,ME,EE,MM departments, around 60 were shortlisted for the GD
Tips: I am not sure but I guess the criterion for shortlist was CG>7.5

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Even before the GD began,we were asked if we knew what responsibilities the role entails and why we prefer to work in Vedanta.I had gone through their website ,so I mentioned that I believed in their chairman's vision of providing a career and not just a job to every employee and thus was excited and looking forward to my career ahead. Though this question wasn't a part of the GD,it gave a good impression to the GD panelists as they got to know that I had gone through their website in detail which indicated my interest in joining the firm.

Coming to the GD topic, I was surprised that none of my GD team mates knew what GST is. A few of them had a vague idea but knew nothing much. So,I took the step and started off the GD explaining them what GST is and Modi Govt.'s plan to go about introducing this. Then I went ahead into the topic and said we had to discuss the advantages and disadvantages that industries face due to this step taken by the Govt. A few of my team mates were quite interactive and most of them contributed. The GD was concluded within the given span of time.
Tips: Regarding tips, I would say be thorough with the current affairs. When you read an article from the paper/magazine,make sure you form strong opinions on the same(either positive or negative). It will be disheartening for the GD panelists to see that a student from such an esteemed institute doesn't even have the slightest idea of what's happening within the country. Also,be sure you communicate your thoughts properly.Every core company you are sitting for will have a GD round.Only after you clear the GD will you be allowed to sit for the interview. Please don't be under the impression that only your CGPA/core knowledge will get you a very good core job. Communication skills and general awareness is the key.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: I was calm and composed throughout the interview.I had four other interviews lined up in the day,so I thought not getting this company isn't a big deal.Maybe this made me perfom in the interview really well.My entire technical round was based on my internship at Vizag Steel Plant and certain questions based on Copper extraction.I did answer all the questions (except one where she had asked me to apply mass balance). However,I knew that the answers weren't to the point and perfect. But one thing you should remember is that you have been studying your specialisation for 4years.So,you will definitely recall more than the person sitting opposite to you who had done his/her specialisation in the same subject around 10-15 years back. The trick is to come off as confident in your answers and make them sound logical and convincing.Think out loud and explain your thought process to the interviewer.
Tips: Be chill in the interview. This is possible if you have back up interviews for other companies. So give all your tests properly. Also, apply to all companies, atleast those in the first three days of placements .The more the number of companies you apply to, the higher the chances of getting placed within three days.Placements are pretty random,so it's highly possible that you may never end up with the company of your choice or your dream company and you may regret not applying to the other companies later.

For HR questions, use 64HR questions book for the questions but format your own answers related to your experiences so that they don't sound fake.
Also, when the interviewer asks at the end of the interview if you have any questions please make sure that you ask sensible questions.DONT ask questions like what your responsibilities will be as a GET or the skills for the role as all this will be mentioned in the JD.Be more specific about your questions. And also,if you have gone through their website, make sure you add relevant points in that subtly in your answers like for example you can include why you want to join Vedanta in the question on tell me about yourself citing examples from their website. These tips mentioned are for any company. If you get the tricks right, any interview will be a cake walk.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The company came to our campus on day 3 and agreed to take walk-ins.
Therefore resume shortlisting was the procedure.
They had a cut off of 7 CGPA.
Tips: It would be good if you have some coding background with few projects. It could anything from class projects to your internships, extra-curricular or final year projects. Don't forget to mention what all programming language you know on your resume.

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: The first round consists of two panels. One of them was asking HR. And the other was asking technical questions. They were just looking whether you have the basic technical knowledge and if given an offer you will join or not.
Tips: For technical knowledge, you can refer OOPs basic concepts, standard coding interview problems, geeksforgeeks, cracking the coding interview by Laxman Gayle etc. It would be better if you can first practice hr questions among your friends instead of going directly to interview. I found a youtube channel explains technical relatively easier and simpler way. you can follow that. Just try to show that you are interested in that company.
For HR questions, one can prepare from 64 HR questions.
For the basic OOPs concepts, one can read first 10 chapters from E.Balaguruswamy but any other OOPs book will also be fine.
Confidence is the key ace any interview!!

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This round was mainly to check your personality. He was trying to know whether you will fit in the company or not. Most of the question was from my personal life. They will see whether you are serious about your life or not.
Tips: Be ready to give them instances of your life where you did things differently. Try to show that you are passionate about the company. Try to show you have a clear vision in your life and working hard to achieve that.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This round was just a formality. The HR from the second round interview introduced me to the third interviewer. He asked few question related to the family.
Tips: One important thing I would like to is that NEVER ASSUME THAT WHATEVER YOU TOLD TO YOUR PREVIOUS INTERVIEWER WILL BE KNOWN TO THE NEXT INTERVIEW. So, if you think some specific points will help you do good in an interview...just let him know. I could be anything your project, conference, paper presentation or your past life as well.

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: Questions are asked based exclusively on what is told about oneself. A good picture of one's skill sets and reasons for wanting the job is recommended. Depending on the extent to which one presents oneself as technically knowledgeable, one should make it apparent; and at the same time, acknowledge the limits of one's knowledge. In the case in point here, I was asked technical question from their written test for a higher job profile.
Tips: Be candid on thoughts for taking up the job, and give them a reason to notice you in particular.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Strong emphasis on the consistency and composure of the candidate. Good to stay focused on the points brought up and provide a coherent big picture incorporating those. Confidence and optimism would help in projecting the right attitude. Give answers that directly address the questions asked. In my case, I was pressingly asked the reason for wanting to take this job up, with a background in physics and a weak one in coding.
Tips: Be firm, confident and composed, and directly address the questions asked.
