5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Around 400 students applied for the company. Some 40 students were shortlisted from the resume. The company visited the institute for 3 different profiles. We were asked to fill a google doc and give our preference for the three profiles. Shortlisting was done according to the preference filled.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: There were 8 people in the group. I managed to start the discussion and give it a direction. Everyone else were in agreement to the point I made which gave me a bonus. Each student had to give a concluding statement. Overall, I roughly spoke for around 3-4 minutes. 2 of us were shortlisted from the group.
Tips: 1. Always Always try to start the discussion.
2. If you are unable to start it, try giving a structure to the whole discussion.
3. Avoid deviating from the topic.
Duration: 20 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This interview was majorly limited to my resume. It lasted around 40 minutes. We had a friendly discussion about my exchange semester in a foreign country. Technical questions were raised from my internship experience along with two guesstimates. Overall, the interview went very smooth. The interviewer was very friendly and even helped me clear a couple of roadblocks while solving a guesstimate.
Tips: 1. Try to build a connection with the interviewer.
2. Be thorough with your resume
3. Approach is all that matters during a guesstimate. Be sure to explain your approach clearly to the interviewer before you start. Make a proper flowchart on a piece of paper as you go along solving the guesstimate.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: A small HR interview which lasted around 10 minutes. I was asked all the common HR questions and was offered the role in the company at the end of this round.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I am actually from mechanical stream and so I was asked how will I fit for the role. I started talking about my internships and projects where I have used technology (coding stuff) and that I can learn new coding language quickly
Tips: Just make sure you highlight anything you have done related to coding and coding tools (ex. C, VBA, MATLAB,etc... anything)
Even if it is a small part that is related to a tool (above mentioned) mention the same

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: When asked tell me about yourself, I started saying the one I have prepared for the placements but then she asked to mention other stuff like what movies you watch, games you play, talking to people, hanging around with friends.
Then she went through my resume asking me to explain all the points from top to bottom. The key point here is highlight the points that include some tools (C,Excel VBA, MATLAB,Python etc)

Tips: While talking about tools you have used think in the lines of giving an input to the tool the output that comes is used for making few decisions/estimations and how is a data received in the project you have mentioned.Try matching everything you mention to this

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: Use the same principle I have told before. Mention your projects/internships related to coding even if it is small.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Other Interview
Experience: A candidate had to broadly go through 3 interviews before the company decided to take her/him. Like most interview processes, the interviews had sequential importance and one had to clear the 1st to get called for the 2nd and clear 2nd to get called for the 3rd.

There were several panels (mostly single-person) with some senior officials from the company and some with just a year's experience.

My first interview was with a senior official. He asked questions based on my resume and particularly focused on my internship. He was genuinely interested in my project there and that eased the process for me. I gladly explained it and he immediately decided to promote me to the second round. 2 things that I believe were key to this were:
1. my project and level of contribution during one of my summer internships
2. my ability to communicate, connect with him and explain a complex project in the matter of minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The second round was with one among the Leadership of the company. He was very clear, open and straightforward in his approach. He stated that there would be 3 quick segments to the HRish interview:
1. Telling about myself
2. Him asking me questions
3. Me asking him questions

Thus, it started with the routine "Tell me about yourself" and an overall gauging of my accomplishments and matching it to my resume. He was jolly in mood and asked what position I play as in football and made a couple mood-lightening comments.

The second segment. He asked me what I believed were my strengths. Then, he asked me to describe qualities of the ideal environment that I would like to work in. I took this opportunity to build on my answer about my strengths and match it with the kind of work the job offers. The next question was slightly offbeat, 'describe qualities of a place you would not want to work in'. I took a moment and answered carefully. His comment on my response was that it was 'Politically correct'

He was thoroughly satisfied with my interview, told me that he didn't want to waste any more time and immediately moved me to the next round.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: The final round was with the MD of the company. It was necessary for him to interview a candidate before he/she was selected.

All through the process, he ran through my resume. I believe he was looking for one and only one quality: Can the candidate communicate with highly experienced, senior officials and convey complex ideas?

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test was to estimate your aptitude and coding ability. It was not too tough. For aptitude, I prepared from CAT prep books and pariksha.co(which helped a lot). For coding, practice in hackerrank.com would help a lot. It is good to know the basics of Data Structures and Algorithms.
Tips: Practice coding and improve your speed in aptitude.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Around 40 people were shortlisted for GD. It happened in groups of 9. We were asked to choose a topic from given topics. Try to choose a topic which everyone could relate to. Initiate or conclude if you can, it will definitely get you some brownie points. Don't try to interrupt others but make sure the discussion was going in right direction.
Tips: Be confident and precise while you speak.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The first round of technical interview started with "Tell me about yourself". Then, I was asked to explain my technical projects and internships(coding related). Then they asked few puzzles and some questions on probability. If you have won any technical competitions, it would be a great plus point. Later I was asked if I have any questions for the interviewer. I asked them about the company's work culture and career growth. It is really important that you ask appropriate questions. Prepare them beforehand.
Tips: Practice Puzzels(Book: Heard on the street-quant and probability puzzels) and revise basics of probability(Bayes' theorem etc..)
