A TOXIC Culture That Starts with the CEO Priyam Sharma The Jurni Media brands itself as "India's largest travel newsletter," however, in reality, it's anything but the largest - far from it. 1) Hirings and Firings The most glaring issue at The Jurni is its lack of respect for employees. Over three months, three senior employees were fired, under the guise of "performance reviews." However, conversations with former employees reveal a toxic pattern; The Jurni employs a strategy of disposable hiring. Senior employees are brought in on a need basis and fired when plans change. 2) Nepotism Disguised as Strategy The CEO Priyam, introduces Sonjoy Phukan, the former COO of the Bank of Singapore as her strategic advisor, giving The Jurni a false sense of credibility! However, the fact that Sonjoy is her HUSBAND undermines the company's credibility completely. 3) Tall Claims that Are a Complete Lie For a brand that boasts about being India's largest newsletter, The Jurni is absolutely unknown. Ask around and you'll see that no one recognises the brand, let alone considers it significant in the media space. 4) One-Woman Show Gone Wrong The Jurni is run according to Priyam's whims and assumptions about people - check-in with former employees and they'll tell you how she functions. Decisions - including the frequent firings - lack transparency. She operates on personal biases and her insecurities. The Jurni might claim to be a giant in the newsletter world, but it lacks vision, has no structure, is run based on Priyam's insecurities hires senior editorial staff on a need-for-hire basis. The company is made for interns since it's led by a woman who functions like one.
