The best thing is probably the flexibility when it comes to teaching hours and location as they're both in your control.

Nothing unique to Preply only, but the online language teaching market is just very saturated because of the low (and sometimes unfair) barrier the job has. Bottom line is, no matter how little you're willing to charge for a session there's always someone who is charging even less. And that is when you can actually get a decent amount of students. Usually, you'll have 2 to 4 students at any given time. It's not really stable of course, but that's a given cause it's a marketplace. Added to the low rates (which you have to set up yourself), there's the commission of 33 percent in the beginning for every class. Only after you complete 400 lessons does it drop to 18 percent and that's the minimum it gets to. Overall, really really nice if you take it as a side job to do a bit more than breaking even if you're living in another country and teaching elsewhere, but a terrible idea to think that you can take it up as a main job. Also, getting the first few students might even take months for some, because of course people are hesitant to pick a new teacher with no reviews. Make sure your introduction video is awesome. Being a native speaker also helps a lot.

Subscription model doesn't work, hence joined other platform. They imposed it on tutors and students as well. No one is happy about it (except the few internal pseudo tutors).
