It is a great news publication for freshers who are looking to build a career in journalism. The publication is well respected in Bangalore and Karnataka, giving young reporters a lot of exposure to big stories and connections that they otherwise might not have gotten.

Very low pay, abysmal appraisals, very long and unstructured working hours, super hierarchical and archaic working style, no outlet to vent out frustrations/complaints, promotes a very toxic culture at times, middle management/editors can have zero empathy and bloated egos without the skills to show for it.

A lot of freedom to delve into whichever domain you want to get into. Not sure whether that's a pro or a con because it's happening only because literally every team is understaffed.

No work-life balance, poor pay, overworked and understaffed, editors are older than furniture and have biases, sexist culture, progressive only superficially, low & mid-level managers micromanage. Biggest con: New ideas can work only if they are not controversial (A red flag in a journalism office. Why are you scared to speak the truth?). Even seen plagiarism by senior editors. Some team heads have absolutely no clue about what they are doing and they only hold that position because they put in a certain number of years sitting at the same desk, without any real exposure or doing something even remotely related to journalism. Most desk heads are like clerks who just focus on making the pages and sending them for print. No real political discourse in the newsroom. Low & mid-level managers show no interest in the field. Buried a MeToo case, too.

The company culture and the overall work environment. The company isn't up to date with the current trends in Digital Marketing and branding and does not see the need to apply the same to their products and services.

Team leads are not supportive. No training will be done.. Team lead does a lot of partiality among the team n favours only one. So you are always under the pressure to impress the team lead. N hikes are based on your team lead recommendation. He can get you terminated any time.
