If you want to work without compromising with family life it is better organization than most of the private companies. And if if you have desire to learn things in pratical world then you will have ample opportunities. Unlike private companies engineers who are mostly specialised in a particular thing, you may get exposure of various jobs.

Dislikes

There is no job security. Contractual basis. Also no clear path of promotion after a certain time. At present a site engineer can go upto manager after 10 years with E2 scale which is unjustified.
