Its an amazing place has all the ingredients to be the best. A lot of good people to work with (Shailesh Shekar-CEO, Nandini Bhalla - lifestyle Kali Puri -big boss) 1. Sr management which means Kali Puri have the ownership and give it their 200% 2. HR team simply brilliant come up with innovative ways to keep employees engaged 3. Finance and admin team - ensure employees do not waste time with formalities regarding insurance PF encashments etc. Arun pant is like the Alixa of India Today you can ask him anything ... literally. The events team is an example of sheer grit they can trouble shoot almost anything and have pulled off the biggest shows this country has seen. The learning from them is big....Read More

13 years would allow me to be as candid.... 1. My earlier boss now at google Shailesh Shekar was what I call a builder of people he invested in each person. the later Salil Kumar was good too but not professional he is prone to groupism had his chosen ones and if any one said anything about them it was not taken well. e.g. the then dev head was a nice person but work wise did not fit the bill. And since I voiced it to the sr. management it did not go down well and yes later every effort was made to get me out. he also did use his position to pass derogatory statements e.g. being called a 'madrasi' wasn't becoming of a person in that position. 2. Innovation and ideas are good as long as it comes from the person you like. e.g. I had designed an interactive and showcased it. But then it was not taken up. But in a workshop where an international big wig Ami Webb saw my idea and actually told the sr. mgmt that it was good did it take off and got implemented. But this was short lived as the editor Kamlesh Kishore Singh was not convinced so a good idea died. 3. India today is a family run business like most of the big ones so yes it has its drawbacks as a lot of the decisions are person dependant rather than a professional approach. So say Kali Puri who was a complete work addict in a good way and who actually got things done had to overlook everything which did not make sense. Why have managers when every decision has to be taken by one person. 4. Yes bad apples are everywhere. Yes we too had our fair share :) 5. Sacking employees - nothing new and yes all companies have to do it at times. Its how its done is what makes a difference. I was not told for months that I was find something else. Kamlesh Kishor Singh whom I reported to kept skirting the issue and kept playing ping pong between him and HR.
