There is definitely job security as well as some benefits like health and children education. Being a central government job it provides basically a handsome amount at the ending of month. Work-life balance is not worst but may not be so good, varying from office to office.

There are lots of disadvantages 1. Life is going to be stressful and pathetic, specially, for those who just want to live the life, and will feel like hell. 2. So many politics and lack of transperancy in many of the places within the department 3. Policies for the employees are not so good comparing to other renowned companies, notflexible and smooth for implementation 4. Nothing i liked in postal..infact i want to share one thing ...whatever that GDS cadre is there it is terrible...if there is any slave concept going on in the world that is only in indian postal dept...that too in GDS cadre jobs only..revolution has to come to avoid this terrible culture.....
