Ashneer Grover led CrickPe has officially shut shop within two years of its launch! Despite India’s obsession with cricket, even a ‘Master Founder’ couldn’t make this fantasy gaming platform work. 🤔
The reasons? A 28% GST on real-money gaming and a business model that didn’t quite fit the market. The idea of paying cricketers for their performance was unique, but apparently, it wasn’t sustainable. Meanwhile, giants like Dream11 continue to dominate.
Grover himself admitted that the connotation of gambling with gaming in India made it tough to scale. Now, he’s shifting focus to ZeroPe, a fintech platform offering EMI options for medical treatments.
