UniHealth Foundation has discovered that charity begins at home. UniHealth Foundation is what is left of what was once one of California's fastest-growing health systems. After spending some 10 years trying to build an integrated health care delivery system, the company sold its eight hospitals to Catholic Healthcare West, and its CliniShare home health services and ElderMed senior citizens care services to Trinity Care. UniHealth used those assets to begin its second life in 1998 as a grant-making organization with more than $42 million in assets through its Facey Medical Foundation. The foundation focuses on supporting health care education and care for the indigent.
