IDRBT

The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) is a unique institution established by the Reserve Bank of India, the central bank of the country, in 1996. IDRBT is the only Institute in the country exclusively focused on the niche area of Banking Technology. Mandated to be the Brain Trust for Banking Technology and to Spearhead Technology Absorption in Indian Banking & Financial Sector, IDRBT is a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, recognised by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Right from creating Banking Technology Infrastructure, engaging in quality Applied Research and Development to moulding Technology Talent, IDRBT enables the technology transformation of the Indian Banking and Financial Sector. The Institute conceptualised, designed and launched the Indian Financial Network (INFINET), Structured Financial Messaging System (SFMS), Certifying Authority Services, National Financial Switch (NFS) and Indian Banking Community Cloud (IBCC), which constitute the foundation of Banking Technology in India. The Institute has set up state-of-the-art Research Centres for aiding and promoting high quality research and development. The Research Centres are being constantly upgraded with the latest systems, devices and tools to keep pace with the ever-changing technology trends. Presently, the Institute has the following six Research Centres for focused research and development: Centre of Excellence in Analytics Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Centre for Mobile Banking Centre for Affordable Technology Centre for Payment Systems Centre for Cloud Computing The Institute has several collaborative forums such as Indian Banks’ Chief Information Officers (CIOs) forum, Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) forum, Chief Analytics Officers (CAOs) forum, FinTech Forum, to enable constant deliberation on common technology issues between the senior management of banks, and bring in the best and leverage it for the benefit of the Indian Banking and Financial Sector. The Institute also offers a series of Institute’s Executive Development Programmes and manages the Indian Banks – Centre for Analysis of Risks and Threats (IB-CART).
