Environmental Defense

Environmental Defense fights for those without a voice. The not-for-profit group works to protect the environment through programs in areas such as ecosystem restoration, environmental health, ocean protection, and global and regional air and energy. The organization, which has tripled in size since it was founded in 1967, boasts more than 500,000 members and employs some 300 scientists, attorneys, economists, and other professionals. In addition to its New York City headquarters, Environmental Defense maintains 10 regional offices nationwide and in Beijing. Environmental Defense initially funded its efforts from a battle won against the DDT pesticide, which had been harming wildlife.
