AIMS is located near Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. AIMS is part of the health sciences campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University). The institute was inaugurated on May 17, 1998 by the then prime minister of India, Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in the presence of her Holiness, Mata Amritanandamayi.
