Job Description

Role Summary

Responsible for the preparation of structural design calculations for projects under the guidance of Lead civil structural engineer. Ensure quality, schedule and budget requirements are on target.

Responsibilities

Establish design criteria, prepare engineering specifications, design calculations, material take offs (MTO) in accordance with project requirements.
Exercise cost control, reviewing and monitoring designs for conformance with cost estimates and project specifications.
Review vendor design drawings and check steel shop fabrication drawings.
Conducting on-site inspections as required.
Detailed civil and structural designs, which include concrete foundations, piling, steel structures etc.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and team members.
Ensure the Quality Assurance, consistency and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables.
Reporting the status of design activities to Lead engineer.
Support Lead civil structural engineer in maintaining budget, schedule and adherence to the agreed scope of work.
Identify trends and work with Lead civil structural engineer to determine scope, schedule and budget impact from the trends.
Work closely with Piping and Electrical department to coordinate the design development continuously.
Assists in handling and answering all RFIs (Request For Information) from construction sites.
Check work of and assist in the training of less experienced engineering personnel.
Understands the project schedule; capable of defining personal and team responsibility within the project context.
Communicate with internal peers and project team and may be required to answer questions regarding deliverables.
Accountable, committed and dependable when it comes to completing projects on time; seek out assistance as required.
Maintain and archive project documents as required or directed by the Civil Lead.
Continue to build a broad knowledge base as well as acquiring a high level of civil structural engineering competency.
Develop familiarity with WSP standard drawings, specifications, general practices, procedures, Client specific standards.
Expected to work with all levels if the organization in a cohesive manner.

Qualifications

Masters degree in Civil Engineering, with Structural as major.
9 to 11 years experience in the engineering of civil structural designs in the Oil and Gas, Energy industry.
Working knowledge of softwares like SAP2000, S-Frame, Mathcad etc.
Good report writing skills.
Familiarity with relevant Canadian design codes for Piling, Concrete and Steel Structures, and also current Industrial standards.
Proficient in MS Office.
A team player with strong communication and inter-personal skills.
Solid organization and time management skills.
