The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the university workshop, ensuring safe and effective use of tools and equipment, supervising students and staff during practical sessions, and maintaining a productive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Operations Management:
- Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop.
- Plan and schedule workshop activities to align with academic requirements and project timelines.
- Ensure all equipment, tools, and machinery are operational, maintained, and calibrated regularly.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for students and staff.
- Conduct safety briefings and training for users of the workshop.
- Maintain compliance with university policies, industry standards, and legal regulations.
Support for Academic Programs:
- Assist faculty in conducting practical sessions, projects, and demonstrations.
- Guide students in the safe and efficient use of workshop tools, materials, and machines.
- Provide technical expertise and support for academic and research projects.
Inventory and Resource Management:
- Monitor and manage the inventory of tools, equipment, and consumables.
- Procure workshop supplies as needed, within budget constraints.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment use, repairs, and inventory.
Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and mentor technical staff, trainees, and student assistants in the workshop.
- Provide hands-on training and support for students during practical activities.
- Evaluate and recommend skill development programs for staff and students.
Administrative Duties:
- Prepare and submit reports on workshop activities, budgets, and maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with other university departments to support interdisciplinary projects.
- Handle student feedback related to workshop activities and resolve any operational challenges.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience in workshop management or a similar role, preferably in an academic or training environment.
- Strong knowledge of tools, machinery, and fabrication techniques.
Soft Skills:
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
