Job Description

Qualifications : A Master s degree in Sociology/ Wildlife Sciences/ Life Sciences/ Ecology/ Conservation Biology is essential.

Work experience and essential qualities :
  • Minimum work experience of 2-4 years required in social surveys, community ecology, demographic studies and human-wildlife conflict mitigation and management.
  • Candidate should have experience working with communities and various stakeholders dealing with village surveys, social assessment, human-wildlife conflict etc.
  • Knowledge of GIS and remote sensing data usage and analysis and working knowledge of local language is desirable.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate having working experience in Nilgiri landscape, Shola forest and Western Ghats.
Key Responsibilities :
  • The candidate will be responsible for implementation of all community based interventions including (but not restricted to) socio economic surveys, alternate energy resources/ cooking mediums, cropping pattern change/ improvements, selection of beneficiaries through consultations with local communities (e.g. Focus Group Discussion, Key Informant Interviews etc.), awareness building among villagers and students through nature sensitization programs, educators and volunteers and driving behavioural changes as per project plan.
  • Coordinate with field assistants, volunteers, State Forest Department, other government and Non- Government agencies for implementation of activities as per project plan.
  • Assist the community in mitigating Human Wildlife Conflicts (HWC), development of early warning system, filing of ex-gratia support, and convergence of government schemes beneficial in addressing HWC in the area.
  • Collect data of all the conflict cases attended/ handled, conduct peace meetings and amelioration meetings with victim families local communities.
  • Constitute Primary Response Team of local volunteers in human-wildlife conflict hotshots.
  • Data collection analysis for the project activities.
  • Write periodic reports for submission to different stakeholders
  • Ensure quality and timely implementation of assigned project activities within stipulated time and budget.
  • Ensure project activities are implemented in an ecologically sound manner
  • Conduct timely and periodic reviews of project plans and activities and conduct weekly reporting on project activities
