The Database Administrator will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced professional to manage, monitor, and maintain databases, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security. The candidate will work closely with development teams and provide L3 support across multiple database technologies.
Desired Background
Bachelors degree in computer science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field preferred.
6-10 years Microsoft SQL Server & PostgreSQL database administration experience.
At least 5 year working experience on production database administration.
Must have good knowledge of Backups, Log shipping, Database replication, performance tuning, Always -on cluster.
Good understanding of system tables and schema.
Good problem solving & analytical Skills.
Knowledge of any other RDBMS like MySQL, DB2, Oracle will be an advantage.
Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Self-motivated and directed.
Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the businesss Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
Test backups to ensure the business Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
Troubleshoot Database Servers (MS SQL, PostgreSQL) service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.
Install and configure new SQL Servers & Always-On cluster implement clustering, log shipping, mirroring, replication.
Install and configure PostgreSQL server Setup replication.
Installation and configuration of pg_pool, pg_bouncer.
Troubleshooting of PostgreSQL cluster.
Deploy database change scripts provided by development team.
Provide L3 support to multiple projects to manage multiple database technologies like MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL & DB2.
Upgradation of DB server to next version..
Implement security patches.
When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware upgrade, server configuration changes, or index/query changes.
Document the Activities/SOPs of database environment.
Need base travel to project site for implementation and troubleshooting.
