Regulatory Compliance: Maintain necessary permits and licenses for the use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment.
Risk Assessment: Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of radiation exposure risks in the workplace.
Analyze procedures and practices to minimize exposure levels and enhance safety protocols.
Monitoring and Reporting: Oversee the monitoring of radiation levels and exposure among personnel using dosimetry and other measurement devices.
Maintain accurate records of radiation exposure and incident reports, and report findings to relevant authorities.
Training and Education: Develop and conduct training programs for staff regarding radiation safety, proper handling of radioactive materials, and emergency procedures.
Educate staff on the principles of radiation protection, including time, distance, and shielding.
Incident Investigation: Investigate any incidents or accidents involving radiation exposure or contamination, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Recommend improvements to reduce the risk of future incidents.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor s degree in health physics, radiological sciences, nuclear engineering, or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees may be preferred.
Experience: Relevant experience in radiation safety, health physics, or a related field is essential.
Experience in regulatory compliance and risk management in a healthcare or industrial setting is advantageous.
Certifications: Certification as a Qualified Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
