Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

1. Health & Safety Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations

(e.g., OSHA)

• Monitor workplace conditions to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of health and safety inspections, incidents, and

corrective actions.

2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification:

• Conduct regular risk assessments and identify potential hazards within the

manufacturing plant.

• Propose and implement mitigation strategies to address risks associated with

machinery, chemicals, and operational procedures.

3. Safety Training:

• Organize and conduct regular safety training and workshops for staff.
• Ensure employees are educated about workplace hazards and best practices for

handling chemicals and machinery safely.

• Provide first aid and emergency response training.

4. Accident Investigation & Reporting:

• Investigate accidents or near-miss incidents and document findings.
• Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
• Prepare and submit incident reports as required by regulatory bodies.

5. Environmental Health & Safety (EHS):

• Oversee waste disposal, chemical handling, and other environmental safety

measures in accordance with environmental laws.

• Ensure proper storage, labelling, and disposal of hazardous materials in the facility.

6. Monitoring & Audits:

• Perform internal audits to assess the effectiveness of the health and safety

management system.

• Regularly inspect equipment and machinery by coordinating QC & Maintenance

team to ensure they meet safety standards.

7. Emergency Preparedness:

• Develop and maintain emergency procedures for situations like fire, chemical spills,

or natural disasters.

• Conduct emergency drills and ensure preparedness for any potential crisis.

8. Health & Safety Reporting:

• Regularly report on health and safety performance to management.
• Analyze safety data and make recommendations for improving safety policies and

procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a

related field (preferred).

• Certification: NEBOSH or OSHA certification is an advantage.

• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in health and safety management in a

manufacturing environment, preferably in cosmetics or similar industries.

• Skills:

• Strong knowledge of risk assessment, hazard control, and emergency preparedness.
• Ability to conduct training and communicate safety procedures clearly.
• Familiarity with Health & Safety software and tools for reporting and audits.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and the ability to enforce safety measures effectively.
