Role & responsibilities
System Design: Design and develop complex electro-optical systems, including laser systems, imaging systems, optical communication networks, and specialized sensors, considering factors like power requirements, signal processing, and environmental constraints.
Component Selection: Choose suitable optical components like lenses, mirrors, filters, diffraction gratings, detectors, and light sources based on system requirements and performance parameters.
Optical Modelling and Simulation: Utilize optical design software to simulate and optimize system performance, including ray tracing, diffraction analysis, and image quality assessment.
Prototype Development: Build and test prototypes of electro-optical systems to validate design concepts and identify potential issues.
Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough testing procedures to evaluate system performance against specifications, including measurements of optical power, signal quality, resolution, and sensitivity.
Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed technical documentation such as design reports, test reports, and system specifications.
Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, physicists, and technicians from different disciplines to integrate electrical and optical components into a functional system.
Specific applications of Electro-Optical Engineering: Related to the VARISIS company
Aerospace: Designing optical systems for satellites, missile guidance systems, and high-powered lasers for defense applications.
Industrial Inspection: Creating optical systems for quality control and defect detection in manufacturing processes
Preferred candidate profile
Strong understanding of optics principles, including ray tracing, diffraction, interference, and polarization.
Good Knowledge with optical materials, including use of coating, bonding materials, photodetectors, lenses etc and other optical elements.
System Integration: ability to integrated optics with electronics and software to develop fully functional electro-optical systems.
Testing & Calibration: Setting up and conducting performance tests like optical power measurement, interferometry, imaging calibration etc and analysing data to improve designs.
Proficiency in electrical engineering concepts like circuit/schematics design, signal processing, and power electronics
Expertise in optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, Trace Pro)
Experience with laboratory equipment for optical testing and characterization
Programming skills for data analysis and system control
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
Strong understanding of physics
Proficient in mathematics
Problem-solving skills
Manual dexterity & Detail oriented
Ability to use scientific equipment, such as Photocromameter, spectrometers and wattmeters
Collaboration and communication skills
