About the Role:
The Substation Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and managing the construction of high-voltage substations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The role involves coordination with multiple departments, including planning, operations, and construction, to deliver reliable and efficient power transmission solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and Development:
• Create detailed design plans for high-voltage substations, including electrical layouts, equipment specifications, and protection systems.
• Prepare single line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and general arrangement drawings for substations.
• Select appropriate materials, equipment, and technologies for substation construction and upgrade projects.
• Technical Evaluation:
• Conduct feasibility studies, load flow analysis, and fault analysis to ensure the design meets operational requirements.
• Evaluate and approve design documents, vendor drawings, and technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with KPTCL standards, national and international electrical codes, and safety regulations.
• Project Management:
• Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and external consultants to ensure timely completion of substation projects.
• Monitor project progress, manage budgets, and ensure adherence to project timelines.
• Conduct site visits to oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of substations.
• Quality Assurance:
• Implement quality control procedures during the design and construction phases.
• Conduct inspections and tests on substation equipment and systems to verify their performance and reliability.
• Provide technical support during commissioning and post-commissioning stages.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of design plans, technical specifications, and project documentation.
• Prepare and submit regular progress reports to senior management.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and bid evaluations.
• Collaboration:
• Liaise with internal teams such as transmission planning, procurement, and maintenance to align design objectives with operational needs.
• Communicate effectively with external stakeholders, including contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background:
• Diploma/Bachelor's/Masters degree in Electrical Engineering/EEE/ECE or a related field.
• Any license related to electrical works is an added advantage.
• Experience:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in substation design and engineering, preferably in the power transmission sector.
• Familiarity with KPTCL and Central Electricity Authority (CEA) standards and guidelines.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, and other electrical design tools.
• Strong understanding of power system protection, control systems, and substation automation.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Office-based with occasional site visits to substations.
• Regular interaction with engineering teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• May require travel Pan India.
