Job Title: Sheet Metal Fabrication Engineer Aluminium Assemblies

Job Summary:

The Sheet Metal Fabrication Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the fabrication of aluminium sheet metal assemblies. This role requires expertise in precision cutting, forming, welding, and assembly while ensuring quality and cost efficiency. The engineer will collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to optimize manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fabrication Process Development:

- Implement sheet metal fabrication processes (cutting, bending, stamping, forming, welding).

- Develop tooling, jigs, and select CNC techniques for efficiency.

2. Material & Welding Expertise:

- Work with aluminium alloys (6061, 5052, 7075) and welding methods (TIG, MIG, laser, friction stir).

- Address thermal expansion, warping, and distortion issues.

3. Design for Manufacturability:

- Review and optimize CAD models (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, NX).

- Improve designs for cost-effective and high-quality fabrication.

4. Quality Control & Compliance:

- Ensure components meet dimensional tolerances and surface specifications.

- Conduct root cause analysis and follow ISO 9001, AS9100 standards.

5. Manufacturing Optimization & Supervision:

- Apply lean manufacturing to improve cycle times and reduce waste.

- Train operators, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure safety compliance.

6. Supplier & Vendor Coordination:

- Source aluminium sheets and coatings, ensuring material traceability.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: BE/Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Metallurgy Engineering. Welding certifications (AWS, CWI) are a plus.

Technical Skills: Expertise in aluminium sheet metal design, welding (TIG, MIG, laser), CNC machining, and GD&T. Proficiency in CAD software.

Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and project management abilities.

Experience:

- 3-7 years in sheet metal fabrication, welding, and aluminium assemblies.

- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or precision manufacturing preferred.
