Position Title: Assistant Professor of Architecture

Location: SSPU Kiwale, Pune

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• Course Instruction: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in architectural design, history/theory, building technology, Building Services and professional practice, depending on expertise. These may include studio courses, lectures, seminars, and workshops.
• Design Studio Leadership: Lead design studios, guiding students through architectural design processes from conceptual development to technical detailing. Provide individual and group critiques of student work, encouraging critical thinking and creative exploration.
• Curriculum Development: Assist in the development and refinement of the architecture curriculum, ensuring that it remains relevant to the evolving needs of the field and reflects the latest advancements in design technologies and sustainable practices.
• Advising and Mentorship: Advise students on academic matters, including course selection, thesis projects, and career development. Provide mentorship and guidance to help students develop a professional-level portfolio and prepare for entry into the field.

Research and Scholarly Activity:

• Conduct Research: Engage in independent or collaborative research in architectural design, theory, technology, sustainability, or other areas of interest within the field. Focus may include topics such as digital fabrication, urban design, environmental design, and architectures social impact.
• Publish Work: Contribute to academic and professional knowledge by publishing research in peer-reviewed journals, books, or other scholarly outlets. Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Grant Writing: Apply for research funding and grants from government agencies, foundations, and private organizations to support research in architecture.

Service and Academic Leadership:

• Departmental Service: Participate in departmental activities, such as faculty meetings, curriculum reviews, accreditation processes, and strategic planning efforts. Contribute to a positive academic environment within the architecture program.
• University Service: Serve on university committees and contribute to broader institutional activities, supporting the mission and goals of the university.
• Professional Engagement: Actively engage with the broader architecture community through professional organizations (e.g., IIA, AESA, etc.), conferences, workshops, and industry partnerships.

Qualifications: As per Council of Architecture’s Minimum Standards for Architectural Education 2020

Education:

• Required: Bachelors Degree in Architecture or equivalent to B. Arch. with minimum 60 percent. marks and three years of relevant professional experience.

OR

• Bachelors Degree in Architecture or equivalent to B. Arch. with minimum 60 percent. Marks and Masters Degree in Architecture or in allied subjects of Architecture with minimum 60 per cent. Marks at either level and one year of relevant professional experience.
• Preferred: A Ph.D. in Architecture or a related field, though not required for this position.

Experience: As per Council of Architecture’s Minimum Standards for Architectural Education 2020

• Required: Professional experience in architecture, including some combination of practice and teaching experience. Typically, 3 years of professional experience or 1–2 years of teaching experience, depending on the applicant’s background.
• Professional Practice: Experience in architectural design practice, including involvement in execution of projects, and knowledge of building services, construction technologies.
• Teaching Experience: Some teaching experience, either as a teaching assistant or in a full-time capacity, is preferred but not required.

Skills and Competencies:

• Design Proficiency: Strong skills in architectural design, including conceptual design, technical drawing, and modeling. Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
• Research Skills: Ability to conduct research in architectural design, theory, or technology. Demonstrated capacity for publishing and presenting research is highly valued.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for teaching, mentoring, and academic writing. Ability to present ideas clearly and engage in critical discussions with students and faculty.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and industry partners. Open to interdisciplinary approaches to architectural education and research.
• Commitment to Student Success: A passion for teaching and mentoring students, with an ability to inspire and guide students through the architectural design process.
