Associate Application Engineer

About the role

The role of an Associate Application Engineer is manyfold in an Enterprise context like the one in Swiss Re. This role will combine design thinking techniques, software development, networking skills, business domain knowhow, lean/agile collaboration culture to design, build, and grow/maintain high quality business applications. Your primary task is to provide technical expertise for specific product(s) focusing on architecture, application design, engineering, and rollout of high-quality products. In this role, you will also be responsible for collaborating with global teams and outsourcing partners during all phases.

About the team

Our team is the global Reinsurance Technology team, responsible for the technical architecture and engineering of IT solutions for the reinsurance business unit. The team members are passionate of bringing business needs and technology together. We closely collaborate with other teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineer solutions.

Your responsibilities include:

• Responsibility of the design and implementation details of our software products and components
• Make sure technical and design standards are followed by all product development teams
• Feel the "technology pulse" in the teams and bring back topics that need to be address in a generic way by creating a standard, and/or a standard component for all product development teams
• Understand and evolve our application landscape with a strong focus on API integrations and loosely coupled systems thinking
• Manage and evolve our technology stack
• Have the oversight on development and infrastructure cost for a portfolio of applications
• Keep up with technology trends and identify promising solutions that meet our requirements
• Present and sell ideas & architecture to a wider audience

About you

Do you have deep passion for Technology? Are you eager to redefine the reinsurance industry with us and make an impact?

• Successfully completed a bachelors or masters degree in engineering with 1-3 years of working experience.

• Strong foundation in computer science, data structures & algorithms
• Good Knowledge in programming languages like Java / Kotlin with good exposure to database concepts
• You are not shy asking WHY and HOW. You like sourcing the needs of people and translating them into products. You start at the need - not what is technically possible. You care about user experience.
• Show good communication and presentation skills and ability to explain complex problems with clarity and effectiveness.
• Have excellent oral and written command of English (additional languages a plus)
• Bring a high-level of curiosity for the financial industry and eagerness to scout for new insights and transform them into commercial value.
• Show the ability and passion to work in a global and multicultural environment, and to be mobile in terms of workplace or location.
• You like to work independently and proactively.
