Jr. Mechanic

Role & responsibilities

The job primarily involves maintenance of laboratory test setups, repair and assembly, machining and fabrication (involving turning, drilling, milling, welding, carpentry etc.) of simple jobs required for experimental work of students, assisting in experimental projects, laboratory administration including procurement, inventory management, stock register maintenance etc.

The job profile also involves:

(a) Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, experimental setups, machines

(b) Assembly of test facilities and models

(c) Basic manufacturing processes (drilling, turning, milling, carpentry etc.) and fabrication

(d) Operation of CNC machines (e) Use of CAD software

Preferred candidate profile

Applicants with following set of essential qualification(s) and mandatory experience can apply for one position of Jr. Mechanic post :

ITI in Machinist/ Fitter/ Welder/ Turner/ Mechanic Machine Tool Maintenance trade with at least 5 years of Industrial/ laboratory experience after the ITI certificate.

Desirable :

Experience (academic or industrial) in fabrication processes and assembly. Basic knowledge of electrical maintenance.

Pay Level 3 (21700-69100)/ Pay Level 4 (25500-81100) as per provisions of Recruitment Rules and Promotion Policy of the Institute. Initial appointment on 3-year contract at Pay Level 3 (21700-69100). Subsequent substantive appointment at Pay Level 4 (25500-81100)
