Responsibilities:
Identifies customer goals and designs, documents, and implements projects to requirements.
Designs, constructs, and integrates Power Plant Control (PPC) implementations along with Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) SCADA for the Consumer Industrial and Utility renewable generation systems.
Conducts and documents testing including Bench Testing, FAT, and SAT.
Develops, integrates, and supports new processes, products, and standardizations.
Manages and owns SCADA development efforts around Ignition HMI and STEM s PowerManager and PowerTrack platforms.
Provides appropriate and timely technical advice on matters relating to PPC, DAS, SCADA.
Helps customers, STEM support, and STEM Field Service Teams solve technical issues with products.
Supports plant commissioning activities with occasional travel to critical sites as needed up to 15% of the time.
Independently manages project pipelines and stakeholder expectations.
Acts as a technical expert in the assigned industry segment, leads by example.
Supports the Senior Project Engineering Manager with weekly industry segment specific meetings, scheduling, continuous improvement, process development, team metrics, training, mentoring, hiring, and issue escalations.
Handles annual reviews for team members and responsible for talent development.
Other duties as assigned.
Technical Knowledge:
1 year of management experience with direct reports.
8 years of controls engineering experience in one of the following industries: renewable power generation, fossil power generation, power distribution, or battery storage.
8 years of experience utilizing PACs and PLCs for DAS and closed-loop control integration. Knowledge of SEL RTACs and WAGO platforms is a plus.
8 years of experience designing, tuning, and troubleshooting PI and PID loops.
8 years of experience with Industrial SCADA/EMS platforms including Inductive Automation s Ignition Platform.
Experience with SQL databases.
Knowledge of the following communication protocols: Modbus, DNP3, OPC, IEC-60870, IEC-61850, FTP.
Competency in the following programming languages: Python, C#, Java, BASIC, IEC-61131 ST
Experience integrating layer 2/3 networking hardware and topologies and serial communications.
Knowledge of cybersecurity best-practices and requirements (NERC-CIP) is a plus.
Solid understanding Power Plant Control modes and electrical grid stability conditions and variables.
Experience with systematic design, tuning, and troubleshooting of complex control systems .
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in engineering and minimum 5 years of experience in field or in a related area.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to non-SMEs.
Must be a team player, a good listener and have the ability to understand and solve customer problems.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Work Environment:
Office Setting, primarily in cubicles
Moderate to high noise levels (i.e., business office with computers, phone, printers, moderate traffic)
Ability to sit or stand (standing desk provide upon request) at a computer terminal for an extended period.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate (talk/sign/type/write) and operate a computer, telephone (or alternative), keyboard (or typing device), etc.
