Role : GM- Design & Engineering

Location : Peenya, Bangalore

Reports to : COO

Team Size : 5 Heads, 30+ Engineers

Role Overview: Head-Design Engineering is directly responsible to create products that are in tune with current customer and market requirements are globally best in class in terms of performance, cost, ease of manufacture and maintenance, ergonomics and aesthetics and help position STEER as a credible market leader in the industry.

Education:

Mandatory Qualification:

1) Graduate in Mechanical Engg Full time from Tier 1 colleges (Top 150 NIRF Ranking colleges like NIT, Regional Engg. colleges, Top Indian Universities)

2) Masters in Engg Design- Full time from IIT / NIT / Top 50 Universities (must be qualified thru GATE or similar University entrance exam)

Experience:

a. Tenure:

• Total 18-24 years of Industry Experience in Machine Building/ EPC Industry where multiple Customer Orders are executed simultaneously out of which minimum 15-18 years in Design & Engg function (including electrical will be added advantage)
• Min 6-8 yrs in senior role as a Design Team Lead / Head after completion of PG
• Person can have taken education straight continuous 18 yrs of UG + PG and then started working // OR // after UG, he could have worked few years in Industry and then completed his PG (Full time only)- Both ways acceptable.
• Should have worked in minimum 2 companies and promoted atleast once during his tenure.

b. Type of Industry:

• 1st preference : Machine Building, Capital Equipments, Packaging, CNC Machine Tools
• 2nd preference : Heavy Fabrication
• Exposure / Experience in Manufacturing processes like Rolling, Casting, Precision Machining, Fabrication, Gears.

Skills :

• Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
• Proficiency in CAD & CAE Software.
• Good understanding of Electrical systems and Controls.
• Demonstrated ability to strategize and solve problems effectively.
• A solid portfolio of successful product design and development

Responsibilities:

Strategic Management:

• Creating design strategies and the execution plans fully aligned with business goals.
• Leading & Coaching design team. Identify, hire, train and develop team members with the best-in-class design techniques. Share performance feedback based on KRA’s/ OKR’s set at start of year.
• Developing and overseeing the design briefs and projects from inception to completion.
• Collaborating with other departments to integrate marketing, customer operations, services and engineering perspectives into product designs.
• Ensuring all designs meet quality standards and are delivered within budget and time constraints.
• Presenting design concepts and prototypes to stakeholders and management teams.
• Conducting market research and trend analysis to keep designs innovative and competitive
• Identifying all inputs required to evolve an acceptable design and reviewing them for adequacy
• Evolving standardization in a manner that effectively supports futuristic Customer Service
• Maintaining a vibrant creative pipeline and anticipating future design trends or directional shifts.
• Lead Value engineering efforts for all of products

Daily work management

• Supervising Design staff and providing constructive feedback.
• Planning, scheduling and monitoring of Design activities and reporting the same to the Management
• Collaborate with functions on product design, knowhow, resourcing matters etc to ensure highest product quality
• Undertake design & development of accessories for extruders & release drawings for prototype product.
• Ensure proper documentation and BOM is available for every single extruder that builds.
• Reviewing and approving prototypes and final products.
• Engaging with suppliers, contractors, and external designers to ensure project specifications are met.
• Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in design methodologies
• Constantly fill gaps in design/drawings that hinder service support in respect of sold machines
• Review Gearbox design & current customer issues, issues especially related to higher RPM
• Diligently Design and Develop low-cost twin screw extruder.
• Identify potential deficits in present designs & providing a permanent solution to the problems
• Making Extruders robust, maintenance friendly and trouble free.

• Reduction in Lead Times through Design initiatives
• Reduction in Material Cost
