Job Summary:

We are seeking an Assistant Manager – Product Design with extensive experience in metal enclosures, sheet metal fabrication, and electrical component design. The ideal candidate will lead product development projects, optimize designs for manufacturability, and ensure compliance with international standards. This role requires expertise in sheet metal engineering, material selection, GD&T, tooling, and electrical integration aspects of enclosures.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Design & Development

• Design and develop sheet metal enclosures, distribution boards, and electrical control panels using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Creo.
• Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, sheet metal flat patterns, and DXF files for laser cutting and punching.
• Ensure proper bend allowances, hole-to-edge distances, and fastener placements for manufacturability.
• Develop modular and scalable product designs for cost efficiency and standardization.
• Optimize designs for heat dissipation, IP rating, and mechanical strength to ensure product reliability.
• Perform design feasibility analysis for new products based on client requirements.

2. Sheet Metal & Fabrication Engineering

• Expertise in sheet metal processes including laser cutting, CNC punching, bending, riveting, welding (TIG/MIG), and powder coating.
• Ensure designs meet sheet metal tolerances, gauge thickness selection, and mechanical durability.
• Optimize enclosure designs for busbar arrangements, cable routing, gland plate positioning, and ventilation.
• Collaborate with the tooling team to develop jigs, fixtures, and dies for precision manufacturing.

3. Compliance & Quality Standards

• Ensure product designs comply with IEC 61439, IS 8623, IS 513, and IP/NEMA protection standards.
• Implement DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) to identify and mitigate design risks.
• Work closely with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to resolve design-related quality issues and ensure dimensional accuracy, fitment, and strength testing.
• Maintain RoHS and REACH compliance for material selection and coatings.

4. Project Management & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Lead new product development (NPD) initiatives from concept to production.
• Collaborate with electrical design engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical components (MCBs, RCCBs, busbars, etc.) in enclosures.
• Coordinate with procurement and vendors for material selection, prototyping, and cost estimation.
• Support production teams in resolving design challenges during fabrication and assembly.

5. Cost Reduction & Process Optimization

• Implement DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles to reduce material waste and improve efficiency.
• Identify alternative materials and manufacturing processes to reduce product cost without compromising quality.
• Standardize BOM (Bill of Materials) and part numbering systems for improved inventory management.

6. Customer & Vendor Interaction

• Work closely with clients to understand product requirements and customization needs.
• Provide technical support to the sales and marketing team for tender documentation and customer proposals.
• Conduct design reviews, prototype evaluations, and technical presentations to clients and stakeholders.

Key Technical Skills Required:

✔ Sheet Metal Design & Fabrication: Experience with bending, welding, punching, riveting, and finishing
✔ CAD Tools: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, CATIA (Preferred)
✔ Manufacturing Drawings: GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), flat patterns, DXF file preparation
✔ Industry Standards Compliance: IEC 61439, IS 8623, NEMA, IP Ratings (IP55, IP66), RoHS, REACH
✔ Material Selection: CRCA, GI, SS, and aluminum for enclosures; Powder Coating and Surface Treatments
✔ Thermal & Structural Analysis: Load-bearing capacity, airflow optimization, corrosion resistance
✔ DFM & DFA: Design for Manufacturability & Assembly to reduce production costs
✔ BOM & ERP Integration: Experience in managing Bill of Materials in SAP or other ERP systems
✔ Fasteners & Accessories: Knowledge of hinges, locks, gasketing, and cable entry systems for enclosures

Required Qualifications & Experience:

📌 Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
📌 Experience: 5-8 years in Product Design of Electrical Enclosures, Sheet Metal Fabrication, or Distribution Boards
📌 Preferred Certifications: Six Sigma (Green Belt), GD&T Certification, or SolidWorks Professional
