Role & responsibilities
1. Ensuring that patient care instrument used throughout the Hospital is safe.
2. Effectively manage and coordinate activities of the Biomedical Engineering Department to include the evaluation, replacement, service and repair of complex biomedical patient equipment; administer policies and procedures applicable to efficient operations.
3. To provide necessary support to the Doctors / Nursing Staff / Operators in terms with equipments usage.
4. Direct all aspects of maintenance and repair of the equipment, as well as ongoing training and education of staff related to safe medical device uses and practices.
5. Provide first hand support to the medical equipments during their breakdown and normal maintenance.
6. Direct and manage preventive maintenance on medical equipment, through adjustment or replacement of items on a scheduled basis to prevent equipment failures.
7. Upkeep all equipment to its proper and uninterrupted working performance by planned and scheduled preventive maintenance program.
8. Ensure the patient safety and result accuracy by measures like periodic calibration, periodic safety checks etc.
9. Provide on job training and support to the equipment users and operators.
10. Coordinate with the agencies for spares and service support.
11. Establish and implement technical protocols and management functions pertaining to biomedical equipments.
12. Assessing the potential wider market for products or modifications suggested by health professionals or others;
13. Advise the purchase committee on the planning, acquisition, and use of medical equipment;
14. Advice administration on matters pertaining to equipments purchase, performance, financial provisions etc.
15. Establish and define departmental goals and objectives to meet goals and objectives of the Hospital. Plan, implement and evaluate programs to meet departmental goals.
16. Prepare departmental budget, present to Head Administration and General Manager for approval, and monitor budgets and expenses to control or justify variances.
17. Establish departmental policies and procedures that are consistent with Hospital Policies and Procedures and which promote organized operation of the function.
18. Maintain standards of practice consistent throughout the hospital and ensure that the accreditation standards of JCI and other accrediting agencies are met.
19. Monitor and facilitate intra- and interdepartmental activities.
20. Monitor effectiveness of departmental programs and incorporate new technology, procedures and program ideas to maintain state-of-the-art practice.
21. Develop new program proposals as needed/requested including budgetary as well as operational components.
22. Direct the personnel management of the hospital to include organization and staffing; performance management; personnel policy interpretation, advising and implementation; staff development, productivity; and resource allocation.
23. Ensure provision of 24 hour, seven day, on-call to support Hospitals Biomedical Engineering needs.
24. Direct the evaluation of new technology for patient care, the development of specifications for medical equipment acquisition, the design of test procedures for medical devices and the design of custom devices as needed.
25. Represent Biomedical Engineering on committees, maintain departmental records, and attend Management and other administrative meetings as appropriate.
26. Ensure the review of supplies, instrumentation, and facilities in the Hospitals relative to safety and performance and recommend required or desirable changes.
27. Specify requirements relative to standards or accreditation requirements.
28. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
29. Raise the requirement of equipments with his analysis statistics for the need and emergency of the department;
30. Advise and assist in the application of instrumentation to user department;
31. Design and develop medical diagnostic and clinical instrumentation, equipment, and procedures, utilizing the principles of engineering and bio-behavioral sciences;
32. Evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment;
33. Install, adjust, maintain, and/or repair biomedical equipment;
34. Liaising with technicians and manufacturers to ensure the feasibility of a product in terms of usage and economic viability.
35. Liaising closely with other medical professionals, such as doctors and therapists on the use & benefit of the machines installed in their respective area of operation;
36. Discussing and solving problems with service engineer of the manufacturing company during breakdown of any machine installed by them;
37. Writing reports and attending conferences and exhibitions to gain knowledge on latest designs of biomedical equipment;
38. Keeping up to date with new developments in the field, nationally and internationally.
39. To maintain all data of the equipments in the hospital in log book.
40. Periodical calibration of all machines
41. On time AMC & CMC of all machines
42. Attend training of all machines pre installation and should have thorough knowledge on the same,
43. Schedule & ensure periodical training to the user party (technicians and staff nurse) on proper usage, maintenance and calibration
