Mortgage Underwriting / Loan Set Up (US Mortgage)

Role & responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct thorough and accurate underwriting assessments of mortgage applications in real-time, adhering to regulatory guidelines and company policies.

• Review mortgage applications submitted by loan officers or mortgage brokers for completeness and accuracy.
• Obtain mortgage loan documentation by ordering credit report, building appraisal, title, and related information, adhering to all internal policies and procedures while protecting the confidentiality of the borrower information.
• Effectively communicate and interact with Loan Officers, Borrowers and other stakeholders to obtain information or to seek clarification about documents in the loan file.
• Identify mortgage loan application and documentation problems by highlighting deficiencies and notifying mortgage loan underwriter
• Prepare mortgage loan files by reviewing loan application; clarifying or obtaining additional information and submitting loan application files to underwriting for approval
• Continually assess pipeline and timely request, following up on borrower documentation necessary to ensure loan meets product and program requirements.
• Verify employment, income, credit history, assets, and other financial information provided by applicants.
• Calculate debt-to-income ratios and other financial metrics to assess borrower's ability to repay the loan.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as company policies and guidelines.
• Communicate underwriting decisions effectively to loan officers or brokers, providing clear rationale and any additional requirements.
• Collaborate with other departments such as processing and closing to expedite the mortgage approval process.

Preferred candidate profile

• Experience in full origination mortgage processing, loan set up, loan documentation, closing, title, quality assurance, compliance, underwriting, or assisting with conventional first mortgage loan products.

• Experience working with Loan Officers, Borrowers and an active pipeline of mortgage loans.
