Design & Development AGM (Firefighting Systems)

Summary /Purpose of the role

• Review work done by subordinates for various design and sizing documents.
• Check and verify the feasibility for the type of fire protection system required as per application.
• Support for the Indigenisation of the various on board fire protection system.
• Coordinate with other stream i.e. Electrical, CI and other cross functional departments.
• Support for the development of the watermist firefighting system.
• Do in house System engineering for mechanical scope of work.
• Give technical support to site, purchase for offer evaluation.
• Shall be able to resolve site issue related to developed system.
• Shall give technical assist during proposal engineering and detail engineering work.
• Shall do feasibility, capability study and preparation of design basis report of mechanical scope of work.
• Shall be able to lead team of engineers and designers.

Key Responsibilities

• Review of the design calculations for the fire protection system (Watermist, Sprinkling, CO2 and Inert gas) as per the applicable codes and standard requirement.
• Formation of system and equipment specifications as per the client and application requirement for watermist systems.
• Sizing of various equipment i.e., pump, valve, foam firefighting system, auxiliary system, etc.
• Review of PID / Schematic for the various fire protection system and pumping system.
• Review of various General Arrangement drawings and system layout.
• Review of technical speciation s and enquiry specifications for the fire protection system and equipment s.
• Preparation of feasibility study report for proposed fire protection system.
• Coordination with client / consultant for proposal and approval of scheme.
• Visit to ships and Naval headquarters for technical discussion about the requirement.
• Root cause analysis for site issues with analytical mindset and conceptual abilities.
• Preparation of List of deliverables, proposals, Man-hour calculations, Cost estimates, Reports for management review, standardization, conducting trainings, knowledge sharing sessions etc.
• Assist in vendor offer evaluation and cost optimization during engineering.
• Shall be responsible for technical support in the design and development activities.

Skills

• Knowledge of NFPA, IMO International codes and standards.
• Having hands on operation on PRO-E, AutoCAD, MS excel and software.
• Shall have good verbal written communication skills.
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite.
• Conceptual knowledge of the basic mechanical design aspects.
• Prior team handling / manpower handling experience with diverse back ground.
