Senior Analyst  – Investment Research, ESG Rating Review (Utilities Sector)

Role: Senior Analyst – Investment Research, ESG Rating Review

Purpose: 

The role involves conducting comprehensive research and analysing publicly listed companies to determine their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) ratings using the client's proprietary research methodology. These ratings are essential for investors to create and effectively execute sustainable solutions, as well as assisting clients in making informed investment decisions. Responsibilities include presenting cases for rating changes to the internal committee. The candidate will collaborate closely with onshore analysts and address inquiries from end clients regarding the ratings evaluated by the analysts. Additionally, the analyst will work on sector reports and other ad-hoc tasks. 

Responsibilities: 

• Ownership of the review and analysis of pre-filled sustainability profiles of listed companies leveraging sector expertise from an investment research perspective
• Conduct ESG assessment based on primary and secondary data 
• Validate ESG impact ratings in accordance with the internally developed methodology for assessing companies on their sustainability performance 
• Identify ESG-relevant controversies in company analysis and maintain sectors 
• Summarise rating actions of the companies under review to release the review findings and rating for the end-users
• Actively support the further development of the methodology 
• Should be the go-to person for clients on the assigned sector(s), either related to the methodology or the sector in general 
• Perform diverse quality assurance tasks 
• Write whitepapers on the assigned sector(s) on a quarterly basis encompassing insights generated through the review process of companies under coverage
• Actively participate in team discussions, contributing innovative ideas and process enhancements and communicating them effectively to the Client.

Experience & Skills 

• MBA or equivalent in Finance /CFA/CA 
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in the Utilities sector with a broad understanding of the different business activities in the sector and business model employed
• Risks and opportunities that the companies in these industries/ sectors are exposed to 
• Understanding of the trends and developments in the sector as well as the long-term outlook
• Ability to articulate and present viewpoints
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Self-motivated individual with strong analytical ability and entrepreneurial thinking with a high degree of independence and willingness for above-average commitment
