The Role
The senior program associate will be responsible for offering innovative strategies to build the GIS research work.
Design, develop, and maintain GIS databases and applications to meet project needs.
Perform spatial analysis and data modeling to support research and decision-making.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS data into broader organizational projects.
Conduct quality control and validation of GIS data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Develop and deliver training sessions for staff on GIS tools and methodologies.
Create detailed maps and visualizations to communicate complex spatial information.
Stay current with industry trends and technologies to enhance GIS capabilities.
Manage GIS-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Provide technical support and guidance to the GIS team.
Qualification & Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in engineering, renewable energy, or a related field from a reputable institution. A master’s degree is preferred.
Master’s degree (Must) [M.Sc/M.Tech] in Geoinformatics, Environment Science, Remote Sensing and GIS or a related course.
6 to 8 years of work experience in renewable energy, Urban designing and planning, Natural Resource sector, with a focus on project design, implementation, management and/or techno-commercial advisory technology assessments.
Required competencies
In line with the listed responsibilities the senior programme associate is expected to have the following competencies:
Expertise in Global Satellite Data: Must have extensive experience in conducting remote sensing activities using all available global satellite data (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel, MODIS), applying advanced techniques for environmental and geospatial analysis.
Geospatial Machine Learning (ML) Modeling: Proven experience in developing geospatial machine learning models, such as pixel-based models, for detecting and classifying various land use and land cover (LULC) categories. This includes the classification of water bodies, industrial areas, forests (at the species level), agroforestry zones, and cultivation land.
Natural Hazard Risk Modeling: Skilled in creating high-resolution models for natural hazard risk assessments, including flood, landslide, precipitation, and fire occurrence modeling. Ability to work with complex geospatial datasets to predict and mitigate natural hazard risks.
Urban GIS Modeling: Hands-on experience in urban GIS modeling, particularly in managing and analyzing urban infrastructure such as wastewater drainage systems, urban planning, and sustainable city development.
Web GIS Integration: Proficiency in integrating GIS platforms with web-based applications, enabling remote access to geospatial data and enhancing decision-making through online GIS tools.
GIS for Renewable Energy Assessment: Demonstrated expertise in utilizing GIS tools for site selection and assessment of renewable energy installations, such as solar, wind, and hydropower, including environmental impact assessments.
Conflict Zone Mapping: Experience in mapping and identifying zones free from social and environmental conflicts, applying GIS techniques for sustainable development, land use planning, and community engagement.
